Xingzi stone carving technique (third batch provincial level) Xingzi is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, leaning against Mount Lu in the north and Poyang Lake in the south. The northern part of Xingzi County is the Shannan Scenic Area of Mount Lu, which accounts for about 45% of the total area of Mount Lu. The geological rock strata belong to the Nankang granite group area. The central hilly belt contains a large number of bluestone (shale) mines. Because of this geographical environment and resource conditions, the stone carving craft has been passed down from generation to generation. Xingzi stone carving is distributed in various scenic spots and towns in Xingzi County, including stele inscriptions and cliff carvings. The stele inscriptions are located in Tuoling and Jishan in Hengtang Town (Tuoling and Jishan are kilometers away from the county, surrounded by dense bluestone mines), Yaji Mountain in Hualin Township, Xiufeng, Wanshan Temple, and Bailudong, which began in the Tang and Song Dynasties. Xiufeng Scenic Area has the Guanyin statue of the Tang Dynasty painter Wu Daozi's iron wire drawing method; Bailudong has the "Hand-planted Osmanthus" by Zhu Xi, a Neo-Confucianist in the Song Dynasty; and the travel notes of Xu Xiake, a geographer in the Ming Dynasty. Cliff carvings are located in the Xiufeng, Zuishi Pavilion, Jianji Temple, Guizong, Xizhi Cave and other scenic spots in Xingzi. According to the "Lushan Chronicles", there are cliff carvings with the handwriting of Dayu when he was controlling the flood, such as "Honghuang Yang". Xiufeng has the handwriting of Yan Zhenqing, a calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, "Ode to the Restoration of the Tang Dynasty", "The First Mountain" written by Mi Fu, a calligrapher of the Song Dynasty, and the handwriting of famous calligraphers from the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties and modern times. The largest number of cliff carvings are in the Xiufeng Temple and Bailudong Academy in Shannan. There are 182 cliff carvings and 23 steles in Xiufeng. There are 189 cliff carvings in Bailudong, all of which are national cultural relics. Today, modern stone carvings in various scenic spots are still increasing. Xingzi Cliff Carvings use natural cliff carvings to carve stones, which is a proof that literati and poets of all dynasties love Shannan (Xingzi) of Lushan Mountain. It has high historical and artistic value and profound cultural connotations in calligraphy art and carving skills. Xingzi stone carving technique refers to the manual skill of carving pictures and texts on the surface of stone with tools such as knives and chisels. The stone material for carving tablets is mainly smooth and delicate bluestone, and marble, white marble, and granite can also be carved, but the pictures and texts are not as clear and beautiful as bluestone. Cliff carving is the carving of words and patterns on natural rocks. In order to preserve them for a long time, they are mostly carved on rocks with delicate structures and solid hardness. The working stone surface does not require to be very flat, and some have to work on cliffs. The best stone carving skills are those that completely retain the details of the original calligraphy and painting. In June 2010, this project was included in the third batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage list.
