Bamboo drum ten-geng gong is mainly distributed in Lianyungang Xinpu District and its surrounding counties and districts, such as Haizhou District, Donghai County, Ganyu County, etc. Bamboo drum ten-geng gong originated in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. During the Tongzhi and Guangxu periods of the Qing Dynasty (1862-1908 AD), it was extremely popular in northern Jiangsu, and many famous artists emerged. During the Republic of China period, gonggu gong gong artists innovated on the basis of gonggu gong, forming various art schools. The Northern Xu School, led by Xu, founded the bamboo drum ten-geng gong, which is mainly distributed throughout Lianyungang and parts of Huai'an, Suqian and Xuzhou. After liberation, Xu Baojiang, an artist of the Beixu School in Xinpu, recruited many apprentices and taught them the traditional repertoire of Bamboo Drum Ten Geng Luo. Among them, the eldest disciple Yan Bitao achieved the most success. According to the "Xinpu District Chronicles", from the 1940s to the 1950s, there were many places for singing and rapping in the area from Qianhe to the northern end of Wangxiang in Houjie. The most influential one was the Bamboo Drum Ten Geng Luo sung by Yan Bihuo. Not only were there a lot of lyrics, but he also often wrote and sang based on novels. Until the end of the 1980s, there was still an endless stream of people coming to listen to the music in the streets and alleys. Bamboo Drum Ten Geng Luo is mainly sung by a single person sitting. The instruments and props used in Bamboo Drum Ten Geng Luo are very simple, mainly bamboo skin drums, gongs, bamboo clappers, gongs, hall fans, etc., as well as long gowns, jackets, top hats and other costumes. Bamboo Drum Ten Geng Luo is simple and easy to sing, and covers a wide range of content, including both traditional repertoires and new repertoires that reflect the changes of the times. The selected books are mostly new titles, some of which are self-written and sung based on new novels, and some are characters and stories in traditional books. Moreover, the singing and sitting places are easy to find and arrange, mainly in street bookstores such as the front and back of the street, the farmyard, and the bridgehead altar. During folk celebrations and traditional festivals, they are accompanied by a full set of leather drums, gongs, bamboo clappers, sound wood, hall fans and other props for singing, which is full of folk flavor, greatly increasing the enthusiasm of local people to listen to opera and enriching their life fun.
