Huai Opera, also known as Jianghuai Opera, originated in Yancheng, Huai'an and other regions, and is popular in Shanghai, Jiangsu and parts of Anhui. Huai Opera is a traditional drama form formed under the influence of Shanghai Huiban in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, based on the folk opera Xianghuo Opera in northern Jiangsu, combined with folk rap such as Mentanci. It is a provincial intangible cultural heritage extension list project. Huai Opera singing music is known for its sonorous, bold, beautiful and simple, and the tunes include [Huai Diao], [La Diao], [Ziyou Diao], etc., with distinct regional characteristics. Due to the dialect reasons in Huai'an, its [Huai Diao] is higher and harder than the [Xiahe Diao] of Yancheng and Jianhu, and is more rough and high-pitched, forming the difference between the Western Huai Opera and the Eastern Huai Opera. Huai Opera has a complete range of roles, including Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou, and a complete performance program of singing, reciting, acting, and fighting. At the same time, a large number of traditional repertoires have been accumulated, known as "Nine Lotuses", "Thirteen Heroes", and "Seventy-two Records". Martial arts are a major feature of the Western Huai Opera. The martial arts skills are deeply influenced by the Hui Opera. The splits, handstands, and Wulong stirring the pillars are unique. Traditional repertoires include "White Tiger Hall", "Eleventh Lang", "Wu Song", "Kou Zhun Carrying Boots", "Mu Guiying Goes to Hongzhou", "Qin Xianglian Beheads Her Husband", "Three Requests for Fan Lihua", etc. The Huai Opera singing music is accompanied by gongs and drums, and the system structure of starting, carrying on, turning, and closing is different from other operas. The language retains the entering tone rhyme type that no longer exists in the northern language system, which has unique value for studying the distribution and evolution of the Chinese language. The lyrics use long and short sentences together. In the key singing segments, multiple four-character linked sentences are used after the basic seven-character and ten-character sentences to push to the climax. This is also a major feature different from other operas.
