The legend of the ink-washing pond is a folk literature project in the second batch of representative projects of the municipal intangible cultural heritage of Huai'an. Origin of the legend The legend of the ink-washing pond is one of the legends created orally and widely circulated by the people of Lianshui. It is related to Mi Fu, who once served as the military governor of Lianshui. In the fourth year of Shaosheng in the Song Dynasty (1097 AD), the great calligrapher Mi Fu served as the military governor of Lianshui. He was diligent in government affairs, fair in handling affairs, and loved the people like his own children. The people all respected him as the blue sky. In front of Mi Fu's study, there is a pond that looks like a gold ingot. Its original name was "Yuanbaotang". When Mi Fu was in office in Lianshui, he often washed ink here after writing and painting. Later, when he left Lianshui after his term of office expired, people changed "Yuanbaotang" to "Ink-washing Pond" to commemorate him, and left a lot of legends about Mi Fu. Basic content and value After Mi Fu served as the military governor of Lianshui for two years, he was about to leave Lianshui after his term of office expired. The local gentry and common people of Lianshui prepared gifts for him to see him off, but he politely declined them one by one. Before leaving, he checked his luggage one by one, fearing that his family members might secretly accept gifts from others. After checking, he found nothing, so he said goodbye to all the villagers and set off. Unexpectedly, Mi Fu had not walked far when he suddenly turned back, which surprised everyone. It turned out that before leaving Lianshui, Mi Fu told his family that they were not allowed to take any grass or trees from Lianshui with him. At this time, he suddenly remembered that the remaining ink in his pen was from Lianshui, so he turned back, took out all the pens, and washed them one by one in the "Yuanbaotang" to show his innocence. Unexpectedly, the water in the pool after washing the ink was divided into two colors, clear and black, with a clear distinction. The clear one was the original pool water, and the black one was the water Mi Fu used to wash the ink. A ball of light mist appeared above the ink pool, colorful and long-lasting. Everyone said that this was the clear light left by Mi Gong. It showed Mi Fu's integrity, and the people who saw him off were all moved to tears. Later generations praised it in poems: A pool of water shines with clear light, and Nangong's virtue is still long. The ink sinks and floats, and the fragrance spreads to the famous site. Everyone is talking about Mi Xiangyang. In order to commemorate Mi Fu, the people of Lianshui changed the "Yuanbaotang" where Mi Fu usually washed his ink into "Mi Gong Washing Ink Pond". Legend has it that after Mi Fu left, there was always a thin mist lingering over the ink washing pond every morning. In the light mist, people seemed to vaguely see the image of Mi Gong washing ink. This is one of the eight famous scenic spots in Lianshui, "Ink Pond Flying Mist". The legend of the ink washing pond is based on the theme that Mi Fu was an honest official and washed his ink to show his innocence when he left Lianshui. It has universal educational significance for modern people and has certain reference value for studying the history, culture and folk customs of Lianshui. Legend has it that the relevant ink washing pond was the pond where Mi Fu washed his brushes and ink when he was the governor of Lianshui. Mi Fu served as governor of Lianshui for two years. He was upright and honest, and his administration was simple and his punishments clean. The economy was prosperous and the people were well-off. When he left office, he still did not forget to wash the remaining ink in his brush. Lianshui people admired Mi Gong's clean style. After Mi Fu left, they often went to the ink pool in Lianshui to remember him. When the ink pool was filled with mist, it seemed that Mi Fu's image was hidden in it, and his calligraphy was elegant and he sang songs. "The Ink Pool Flying Mist" became a famous scenic spot in the county and was listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Lianshui. In the sixth year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1493 AD), Li Kan, the county magistrate, responded to the request of the people and erected a stele beside the ink pool saying "Mi Gong Washing Ink Pool". In the summer of the fourth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1726 AD), Yu Guangzu, the county magistrate, built a pool and pavilion and erected a stele at the old site. He personally wrote "Mi Nan Gong Washing Ink Pool" and "Mi Gong Pavilion". Zhang Hongru wrote "Record of Building Mi Gong Pavilion" and Cheng Luan wrote "Postscript to Mi Gong Pavilion" and engraved them on stone to commemorate. When the work was completed, Yu Guangzu held a banquet at Migong Pavilion, inviting celebrities, scholars, and poets to celebrate with poems and essays. In 1982, the Lianshui County People's Government rebuilt the Ink Washing Pool and Migong Pavilion on the old site, making this thousand-year-old scenic spot shine again.
