In the west foot of Cangshan Mountain in the southeast of Yulindian Town, Muping District, there are nine natural circular deep pools on a steep cliff about 100 meters long. The largest one is five or six meters in diameter, and the smallest one is one or two meters. The water in the pool is clear and you can see the bottom. It is called "Nine Dragon Pool". There are many versions of the "Legend of Nine Dragon Pool", each of which vividly portrays the image of the Dragon King and the Dragon Son. The most popular one is "Nine Dragons Digging a Hole". According to legend, in ancient times, there was a large mountain peak around Kunyu Mountain, with only one tip exposed. It was said to be the end of the East China Sea. Deep in the East China Sea, there is a magnificent Dragon Palace, where the old Dragon King of the East China Sea lives. The old Dragon King has nine sons. The oldest is called Dalong, the second is called Erlong, and they are arranged in order. The ninth is called Xiaolong. The nine brothers were tired of playing and living in the seabed, and they wanted to go to a place outside the sea to see a new world. One day, the nine brothers surrounded the old Dragon King and begged him to think of a way to go out to sea. The old dragon king stroked his long silver beard and said with a smile: "This is not difficult. There is a mountain 9981 meters high 9981 miles away from here. As long as we dig out nine steps along the cliff, we can step on the steps to the sky." The nine brothers jumped for joy and started to work immediately. The big dragon picked up the pickaxe, and the iron and stone collided with a "bang", almost shaking off his arm. He shouted: "It's difficult! Wait until the nine steps are dug out, my life will be over, I won't do it anymore!" The second dragon picked up the pickaxe, and a cluster of golden flowers burst out with a "bang", and the big stone didn't move at all. He sighed: "Hey! It's good to be able to play in the sea, why do you have to be so fanciful." "Fourth brother, come on, hurry up!" The third brother shouted at the top of his voice, thundering but not raining. The fifth child said, "Dad is really good at teasing people. Let him come and try!" The sixth child said, "It's useless for anyone to come!" The seventh and eighth children looked at the ninth child who had been silent all the time and said, "Ninth brother, it's up to you. After you finish chiseling, don't forget to invite us to come together." The eight dragons shook their tails and left, leaving only Xiaolong alone. Xiaolong clenched his pickaxe, gritted his teeth, and chiseled one pickaxe after another without stopping for a day. He wore out 9981 pickaxes and worked hard for 9981 months to chisel out nine ridges. Xiaolong happily climbed up layer by layer and reached the top of the mountain. Ah! Green water and green mountains, white clouds and blue sky, lush grass and blooming mountain flowers. After who knows how many years, the sea receded and Kunyu Mountain was exposed. In order to commemorate Xiaolong's hard work, the day before the Dragon Palace moved, the old Dragon King held up the Dinghaishenzhen that Sun Wukong had returned, and poked three times on the ninth ridge at the top of the peak. Immediately, a stream of sweet water gushed out. This sweet spring flows along nine ridges, spraying snow and rushing down, just like a colorful dragon rising straight up, so later generations called it "Dragon Pool". Later, people changed the name to "Nine Dragon Pool" according to the natural formation of nine ridges. Literati wrote it into the "Ninghai Prefecture Chronicle" as "Dragon Pool Spraying Snow", and listed it as one of the ten wonders of Ninghai.
