Da Lian Xiang is a traditional dance item in the second batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Yandu has a long history and rich humanities. Yandu Da Lian Xiang is most representative in Louwang Town, Yandu District. Louwang Town is an ancient market town in the Lixiahe area of northern Jiangsu. It is rich in resources, beautiful waters, outstanding people, and unique mass cultural activities, especially folk dance. In 2002, it was awarded the "Top Ten Characteristic Cultural Towns" (folk dance) by the Municipal Cultural Bureau. With the changes of the times, folk dance has given the town new vitality. Among them, Da Lian Xiang is unique. She not only inherits traditional characteristics, but also is full of the atmosphere of the times. In the past 20 years, the origins of Da Lian Xiang have been excavated and sorted out. While inheriting the traditional production and beating routines of Da Lian Xiang and maintaining a strong local flavor, the form and rhythm are integrated into the times. According to literature research, Louwang Lian Xiang has a history of hundreds of years. During the performance, people found that beating with a bamboo pole alone was too monotonous, so some people carved grooves on both ends of the bamboo pole, installed copper coins, and tied red silk on both ends. When beating, the silk ribbons flew and the copper coins made a crisp sound, and then it got a nice name "Lianxiang". Later, it developed from two grooves to four and six grooves. Folk artists also added music to Lianxiang, with the local tune "Yangliuqing" as the main melody, and then accompanied it with lyrics, singing while beating, and the interest naturally arises. From then on, every grand festival, such as the Lantern Festival, the Spring Festival parade, etc., beating Lianxiang became an indispensable performance item. After liberation, under the guidance of the party's literary and artistic guidelines, folk dance had its own stage and was increasingly valued by people, and beating Lianxiang was no exception. The town's old folk artists Wang Ruzhang, Wang Shougao, Wang Jiaruo and others have devoted themselves to studying the lotus dance routines, and have continuously improved and developed the traditional methods. Each action of the lotus dance has its own prescribed name. Generally, the singles (using one lotus dance) have various actions, such as miscellaneous fighting, jumping fighting, squatting fighting, and rolling fighting; the doubles (using two lotus dances) have "double plum blossoms", "double dragons playing in the water", "dragon and phoenix presenting auspiciousness", "flying steps and meteors", etc. In the arrangement of the lotus dance, from self-fighting to fighting, multi-person fighting, group fighting, and in the performance, from easy to difficult, from slow to fast, with beautiful dance movements and modern music, the performance reaches a climax, which is dazzling. In addition, the red silk flowers at both ends of the lotus dance look like blooming red plums flying in the green bamboo bushes when they are hit, which is very beautiful.
