"Yingzhou Ancient Tune Pipa" is also called "Chongming Pipa", which is the general name for the pipa music and performance techniques of "Yingzhou Ancient Tune". Chongming was called Yingzhou in ancient times. "Yingzhou Ancient Tune" refers to the pipa music that originated on Chongming Island. "Yingzhou Ancient Tune Pipa" takes the strengths of the northern pipa, which is strong and majestic, and the southern pipa, which is graceful and soft, and gorgeous, and is a famous Chinese pipa school. The founder of "Yingzhou Ancient Tune Pipa" was Jia Gongda, who lived in this county during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. The Chronicles of Chongming County during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty has a more detailed record: "Jia Pipa, whose courtesy name is Gongda, lived inside the northern gate of the city. He was good at pipa, so people south of the Yangtze River called him Jia Pipa. The sound of his pipa could resemble hundreds of things. If it was the sound of wind and rain, people would all want to play it; if it was the sound of all kinds of music, all eight instruments would be played; if it was a fierce battle, armored horses would gallop, and gongs, drums, and spears would shake at the same time, astonishing those who heard it! He once traveled to Yanjing, and visited Qing, Yu, Jing, Yang, and Baiyue. There was no one who could match him."
