"Dancing the Spring Ox" is a blessing activity with strong folk customs held by the Zhuang people in Qunle Village, Shilong Town, Guiping City before the beginning of spring every year. Just as the "Beginning of Spring" arrived, the Zhuang people in Qunle Village happily beat gongs and drums and danced the "Spring Ox". Amid the sound of firecrackers, the "Spring Ox" went from house to house to greet the villagers, pray for the villagers, and pray that the "Year of the Ox" would bring good days and good luck to the villagers. The Spring Ox Dance popular in Shilong Town is very distinctive. In the old days, from the second day of the first lunar month to the second day of the second lunar month (some villages to the seventh day of the third lunar month), it was the local traditional "Guest Reception Festival". Each village arranged the date and invited the Spring Ox Team to perform. There are three forms of Spring Ox: one-legged Spring Ox, two-legged Spring Ox and four-legged Spring Ox. When the one-legged Spring Ox performs, the eight-tone and gongs and drums lead the way. A young man lifts the bamboo-tied paper-pasted ox high with a bamboo pole and dances while walking; followed by several or more than a dozen tea men and tea women in makeup. During the performance, the Spring Ox is first danced amid the sound of firecrackers, and then the tea master and tea maid hold flower baskets and colorful fans while singing and dancing. The singing content includes farming songs, congratulations songs, and songs praising good people and good deeds and criticizing bad people and bad deeds. The two-legged Spring Ox is a pair of yellow ox horns on one end of a large piece of cloth. During the performance, one person holds the ox horns and dances under the cloth. The whole activity is the same as the one-legged Spring Ox, but the tea master and tea maid are only three men and two women, and it is a simple song and dance with relatively simple movements. The four-legged Spring Ox looks like a dancing lion, and two people put on the props of the ox head and ox body to perform the farming process. After the Spring Ox Team visits each household to wish a happy new year, they go to the open field at the entrance of the village to perform the Spring Ox Opera, with the tea master and tea maid playing various roles, and there is a relatively fixed routine. The lyrics of the Spring Ox Dance are in the Zhuang language. Zhuang language can be roughly divided into two major dialects, namely the northern dialect and the southern dialect. Although there are differences between the two major dialects of Zhuang language, the commonality is the main feature; the dialects also have slight differences in pronunciation, but they also have great similarities. The richness of Zhuang language vocabulary is also reflected in the culture of place names. According to statistics in 1982, there are more than 70,000 place names in Guangxi named in minority languages. Most of them were named in Zhuang language by the ancient Zhuang ancestors. It can be seen that the Zhuang language and writing have a strong cultural connotation. The Zhuang people in the western area of Guiping, who love their nation and their country, have the Spring Ox Dance and the lyrics of the Spring Ox Dance. Zhuang language has its own characteristics in phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary. In terms of phonetics, Zhuang language has 22 initials, 108 finals, 6 relaxed rhymes, and 2 stop rhymes, which are unique to Zhuang language. In terms of grammar, Zhuang language grammar uses word order and function words as the main grammatical means. The subject is in front, and the predicate and object are placed after the subject in sequence. The subject is the object of the predicate statement. The attributives are all post-positioned, such as Huahong, Mabai, Heda, Shangao, etc. This is exactly the opposite of the Chinese attributive fronting. The attributive backing is a prominent feature of Zhuang grammar. In terms of vocabulary, it is characterized by monosyllabic words. Vocabulary is generally divided into 12 categories, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, numerals, quantifiers, pronouns, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, auxiliary words, modal particles and phonetic words. The vocabulary is rich. After 1949, Zhuang language has borrowed a lot of words from Chinese. This further enriched the vocabulary and expression of Zhuang language. Zhuang language also has a wealth of synonyms, such as washing face, washing clothes and washing utensils to express the action of washing. The lyrics of the Spring Ox Dance are full of ups and downs, which are obviously different from the conversations in daily life. There are more shouting and more rhythm and beat. It is not impossible to use other languages. Although the meaning is the same, the effect is different, because it is inconsistent with the rhythm and beat required by the Spring Ox Dance, and it goes against the rhythm and beat. During the performance, the cow's dance movements are very simple. It just shakes its head and tail along with the cowherd's singing, looks happy, and accepts people's praise. The cowherd has more movements. He sings while stroking the spring cow, from the cow's head to the cow's tail. Every place he touches has lyrics, such as "Touch the cow's head and ears, the farmers' farming depends on you; touch the cow's head and eyes, the yield of potatoes, millet, beans and wheat will increase; touch the cow's head and tail, the farmer will follow closely. Touch the cow's head and body, the weather will be good for farming; touch the cow's head and feet, and you will be able to eat without worries. The cow is a treasure of the farmer's family, and the farmers love the cow happily; they rely on each other and work hard, and walk towards the golden road together. The lyrics are simple in content, deep in tune, and sincere in emotion, educating everyone to love the oxen and work hard. After the spring cow danced for a while, several yangko teams came on stage, twisting and singing, beating gongs and drums, and it was very lively. The performers also sing while performing actions such as riding a cow, driving a cow, plowing the field, and raking the land. Some of them hold farm tools such as plows and rakes, while others do it barehanded. They have to be very realistic. If there is a slight flaw, the audience will sing to ridicule: Holding golden flowers in hand, the plowing uncle is good at it, Ding Ding Yuan Yuan plows tightly, and the middle is open. The performer then takes over the topic and answers humorously: The gongs and drums are beating and making a fuss, and the old man is also good at it. It's you who don't know my heart, leaving the middle for a fish pond. This makes the atmosphere more lively. In some places, there are also once-in-a-lifetime performances, dressed as the groom. The bride, holding an umbrella and carrying a flower basket on her shoulder, dances and sings, and then sings for a while, twists for a while, and beats the gongs and drums again. When the singing is excited, several people walk into the field, clapping and dancing, and dancing with the actors, and everyone amuses each other. Then they dance and sing: The gongs and drums are beating, others dance lions and I dance cows, others dance lions for happiness, and I dance cows to celebrate the harvest. After a round of gongs and drums, the song continued. The lyrics of the Spring Ox Dance are simple and sincere, educating people to take care of oxen and work hard; the melody is deep and lingering. As a result of long-term folk singing, a unique melody has been formed. There were originally two ready-made dance scripts for the Spring Ox Dance, one was sent to the relevant superior departments, and the other was kept for personal use. The one kept for personal use was lost during circulation, and no text or graphics were formed to record it. Instead, they passed it down from generation to generation through word of mouth, hand, and body, and the descendants watched the previous generations. There is no conclusive text to verify the origin of the Shilong Spring Ox Dance. In history, it migrated to Qunle Village, Shilong Town, West District, Guiping City, and has been passed down ever since. According to the old people in the village, the cows were originally made of mud and were called "earth cows". Because they were too heavy, they could only be placed in the center of the stage for people to watch but not dance. Later, people imitated the model according to the Spring Ox Picture in the "Da Zi Tong Shu". They first used branches and bamboo strips to tie the body frame, limbs, tail and head horns, then glued paper or cloth, and then slightly decorated it. Spring Ox Dance is a stream of Luoyue culture. However, in Guiping City, where there are fewer ethnic minorities and more Han people, many Zhuang compatriots have integrated with the locals, and their living habits and clothing are the same as those of the Han people. What remains unchanged is that they still speak the Zhuang language, especially the unique Spring Ox Dance. Spring Ox Dance, as an authentic folk dance, has no ready-made script. For the hardworking and smart Zhuang people, on the contrary, they think that the script is dead, and their dance is alive. The village, the smoke from cooking, the river, and the ridges of the fields are the scripts of the dance, which are lively and vivid. Because each generation has its own understanding and cognition of the Spring Ox Dance, remembering the ox and remembering the dance, the roots of the Spring Ox Dance have grown into their flesh and blood. When they see fields of hope, the Zhuang people will also dance. The dance of rivers, mountains and rivers, and wind and rain are different every year. Each cow is a living specimen and a living script, which cannot be made by humans. The Zhuang people in Guiping West District have an ancestral motto, which is to abandon the ancestral wealth rather than the ancestral words. It is the Zhuang language. Whether the descendants of the Zhuang people go to study, do business, or work in other places, they always remember the ancestral motto. They study hard like cows; do business with simplicity and integrity like cows; work hard like cows. The Spring Ox Dance is integrated into the soul of the Zhuang people. The script of the Spring Ox Dance is not expressed in words and graphics, but in the hearts of the Zhuang people in Guiping West District, it has become another special script that accompanies them throughout their lives. The Spring Ox Dance is not only a special script, but also a totem of the Zhuang people in Guiping West District.
