It is said that in ancient times, Shili Liantang was the ancient river course of Youjiang River. Most people lived along the river. Villages often fought with each other for the right to use and manage the river water. However, the villagers on both sides of Liantang, who yearned for a peaceful and stable life, sent representatives to determine the right to use and manage the river water in the form of "tug of war" on the water in order to live in harmony. So there was an annual water tug-of-war competition, and the winner exercised the right to distribute. The development of water tug-of-war has become a unique mass sports competition and entertainment activity in Tiandong County. The water tug-of-war team is composed of a mixture of male and female players, with 32 people in each team. During the tug-of-war, all 32 contestants competed on a 20-meter-long and 1.5-meter-wide floating bridge. The floating bridge was shaky, and all the contestants needed to stabilize their center of gravity and maintain balance. If one person fell into the water, the whole team would be dragged into the water. People watch the game not to see the winner, but whether a player fell into the water, which is the highlight of the water tug-of-war competition.
