Jiuwan Mountain, surrounded by a vast river. For more than a thousand years, the Maonan people have created a mysterious and unique Nuo culture, which, together with the romantic and precious flower bamboo hat, demonstrates the mystery and wisdom of this nation. The "Dragon Dividing Festival" is the essence of Maonan culture. Today, the ancient festival is combined with sports competitions and eco-tourism, exuding a unique charm. The Dragon Dividing Festival of the Maonan people is a traditional festival of the Maonan people to pray for gods to bless the harvest. It is held around the first Chen day (Dragon Day) after the summer solstice in the lunar calendar, and the general activities last for two or three days. It is said that the "dragon" is in charge of rainwater, and worshiping it around the "Dragon Day" is to pray for even rainfall for a good harvest. The day before the festival, a bull must be "killed" and the bull's head, tail, feet, and internal organs must be used to offer sacrifices to the dragon. During the sacrifice, there are magicians chanting scriptures and dancing. The beef is distributed to each household or sold in the market, and the income is used as festival expenses. Two or three days after the dragon sacrifice, each household worships their ancestors, the Three Realms Immortals, the Kitchen God, the Landlord Goddess, etc., and also asks the gods to bless the harvest. They also feed the cattle with glutinous rice and steamed meat with rice flour to thank them for their hard work in farming, and give them a day off to rest well. Married daughters bring their children and gifts back to their parents' home to celebrate the festival. Relatives and friends often come to celebrate the festival. Young men and women dress up to sing and choose soulmates. Nowadays, religious and superstitious activities have been abandoned during this festival. Cultural and sports competitions or scientific popularization activities related to production and life have been added. The Dragon Dividing Festival is the oldest, grandest and most representative traditional festival of the Maonan people, and it is the essence of the Maonan culture. The Dragon Dividing Festival integrates singing, music, dancing, drama and competition, expressing the Maonan people's earnest hope for good weather, good harvests, happiness and well-being. It has been included in one of the top ten brands of Guangxi ethnic festival culture.
