Guangdong
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Crane and Phoenix Dance is popular in the Shenming Pavilion and Shengshi area of Shaxi, Zhongshan City. It originated in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and has been passed down to this day. Because the local "crane" and "learning" have the same pronunciation, the people make cranes, accompany them with crane songs, and match them with auspicious animals such as colorful phoenixes and carps, singing and dancing, in order to promote the spirit of "righteous learning".
