Some people also dance around the blazing fire, which is called "spinning blazing fire", which is intended to pray for prosperity in the coming year. There is also a custom of "entering households to pay New Year's greetings" in rural areas, and "Yangko competitions" are held between villages. The scene is very grand, the performance is lively and vivid, and the music rhythm is brisk, which is popular with the audience. According to the Qing Dynasty (Datong County Chronicles), "Shangyuan, commonly known as the Lantern Festival, many people in the countryside dress up as lantern officials, sing rice-planting songs, and come to the city to compete and imitate the rice-planting songs. The "singing rice-planting songs" refers to the drum-kicking yangko; and according to the Qing Dynasty "Yunzhong County Chronicles", "Lichun, also known as the Spring Performance, actors, musicians, and performers each play a story, and villagers carry farm tools and sing farm songs to celebrate the event. They all share the same place, which is called the Spring Performance." The "each plays a story" refers to another name for the drum-kicking yangko. From the above two records, we can see the prosperity of the drum-kicking yangko in Datong. Yushe Tutan Yangko has a long history, a strong humanistic atmosphere, an active and warm atmosphere, a compact plot structure, vivid language, harmonious rhythm, and a strong local flavor. It has a relatively important artistic and cultural research value.
