Fire lion lantern is a traditional dance created in Hongxia Village, Sihe Township, in the southern mountainous area of Guangde County during the Tongzhi period of the late Qing Dynasty. It has a history of more than 150 years and is a relatively well-preserved traditional dance style in the local area. Fire lion lantern performances are used to add to the fun during every festive occasion. There are two wonders about the fire lion lantern. One is its strange shape. It has a lion lantern head, a horse lantern tail, and a dragon lantern body. The two claws on the chest hold a red hydrangea. Two wooden sticks are supported under the lantern. Two thin ropes are connected to the lantern head and the tail of the lantern, and then connected to the wooden sticks. The whole lantern is exquisitely shaped and popular. The second is the strange way to play. During the performance, each person holds a lantern. With the accompaniment of gongs and drums, the performers use the manipulation techniques of shadow play to skillfully manipulate the thin ropes on the wooden sticks, making the fire lion's head, tail, body, two claws, and hydrangea very agile, and leaping, fighting, intimacy, and even joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness are all vivid. At present, the variety of fire lion lanterns is more diverse, and a complete traditional dance performance form with five plots has been formed. There are also organizations such as the Fire Lion Lantern Performance Association in the local area. However, the performers are now old, and young people have new ways of entertainment. The inheritance of the Fire Lion Lantern has become an urgent problem to be solved.
