The art form of "fire lion" originated in the Ming Dynasty, later than the Lingbei cloth lion dance. Legend has it that at that time, Lingbei lion dance was mostly performed during the day, or as a warm-up performance before the performance of Hui opera. But it could not travel around the villages at night. A paper-making master imitated the local male lion to make a pair of "fire lions". On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the "fire lion" team performed for the villagers with dragon lanterns. Little did they know that the performance of the "fire lion" made the villagers very fond of it. Later, many villages also went to ask the paper-making master who first created the "fire lion" to make it. As a result, the folk art of "fire lion" spread in Lingbei. The "fire lion" is made of bamboo strips, covered with colored paper, and lit with wax candles inside the lion's body. The whole body is bright. During the performance, two people hold the handle to perform. The other person is a lion player. He holds a torch and sprays rosin powder on the torch from time to time. The flames soar into the sky, the "fire lion" dances, the drums and music are sonorous, and the "fire lion" performs various lion dance movements to the beat of gongs and drums and suona tunes. The scene is spectacular and quite artistic. To date, only Shangzhuang Town in Jixi County still preserves this folk art.
