Sizhou Opera, formerly known as Lahunqiang, is popular on both sides of the Huaihe River in Anhui Province and has a history of more than 200 years. It is developed from the "Lahunqiang" together with Shandong's Liuqin Opera and Jiangsu's Huaihai Opera, and there is a certain blood relationship between them. Sizhou Opera has more than 80 traditional operas, more than 60 small operas and excerpts, and its representative plays include "Three Curls on the Cold Bridge", "Yang Bajie Saves Her Brother", "Fan Lihua Inspects the Soldiers", "Pi Xiuying's Four Complaints", "Big Garden", "Luo Xie Ji", "Ronghua Ji", "Running the Kiln", "Picking Cotton", etc. The singing style of Sizhou Opera is free and varied, and the actors can freely play according to their own vocal conditions, so it is called "Yixin Diao". The male voice is rough and bold, high and loud; the female voice is gentle and melodious, and the ending is often turned to the high octave Laqiang, which is bright and lively, moving the soul. Its accompaniment instruments are mainly Tu Pipa, supplemented by Sanxian, Sheng, Erhu, Gaohu, flute, etc., and there are also four percussion instruments: bangu, big gong, cymbals, and small gong. The roles of Sizhou Opera are mainly divided into Dasheng, Laosheng, Ertou, Xiaotou, and Chou. Its performances absorb a lot of folk dance performance forms such as "pressing flower field", "small car dance", "land boat dance", "lantern dance", "running donkey" and so on on the basis of rap. It is not greatly influenced by the program norms of opera. It has the characteristics of being bright and lively, simple and hearty, vigorous and spicy, and full of strong local flavor of northern Anhui. There are many unique postures and steps in the performance, such as four corners, whirlwind style, scissors, crane walk, hundred horses battle, draw beams and change pillars, swallows poke mud, embrace the moon in the arms, phoenix double wings, etc. Actors must pay attention to the coordination and cooperation of hands, eyes, waist, legs, steps and other parts. Sizhou Opera is closely related to the life and customs of the people in northern Anhui, showing strong regional cultural characteristics.
