The National Museum of China is the world's largest museum with a single building area. It was completed in 1959 and expanded in 2007. It is the highest institution on behalf of the country to collect, study, display and interpret representative material evidence that can fully reflect China's excellent traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture. It is the country's highest historical, cultural and artistic palace and cultural living room. The National Museum of China is located on the east side of Tiananmen Square, and forms an east-west symmetrical layout with the Great Hall of the People on the central axis of Beijing. The old museum was designed with an inner courtyard layout based on the "目" shape, and an empty corridor was arranged at the west entrance, forming a "one virtual and one real" volume contrast with the Great Hall of the People to ensure the symmetry of the facade scale, form and technique.

Philosophy related to the heritage

From the perspective of Eastern philosophy, the National Museum of China is not only a place to collect and display historical relics, but also a living history book, carrying the wisdom and spirit of Chinese civilization. In Taoist philosophy, the emphasis is on "Tao follows nature". Every cultural relic in the museum is a combination of nature and humanity, and is a witness to the ancients' compliance with nature and creation of civilization. In Confucian philosophy, the museum embodies "benevolence" and "etiquette". By displaying history and educating future generations, it conveys respect for ancestors and the inheritance of culture. In Buddhist philosophy, the museum is a place to observe oneself and understand historical causes and effects. Every cultural relic is like a story, telling the philosophy of cause and effect. From the perspective of Western philosophy, the National Museum of China is a space where rationality and sensibility are intertwined. In Enlightenment philosophy, the museum is a temple of knowledge and a window for human rational exploration of history and understanding of the world. It stimulates people's curiosity by displaying cultural relics and encourages people to think rationally about history, culture and society. In existentialist philosophy, the museum is a place to reflect on self-existence and explore the meaning of life. Every cultural relic is like a microcosm of an era, allowing people to think about the relationship between individuals and history and culture. In postmodern philosophy, the museum is a platform for multicultural dialogue. It not only displays the splendor of Chinese civilization, but also reflects the exchanges and collisions between different cultures, and encourages people to understand and accept multiculturalism with an open mind. In summary, whether from the perspective of Eastern philosophy or Western philosophy, the National Museum of China carries profound cultural significance and philosophical thinking. It is not only a witness to history, but also a bridge connecting the past and the future, connecting different cultures and ideas.
