🎧  Listen to Introduction

The main peak of Jieshi Mountain is Xiantaiding, which is 695 meters above sea level and is the highest peak near the Bohai Sea. There is a famous temple "Shuiyan Temple" in the mountain. The two characters "Jieshi" carved by the ancients are preserved on the cliff. Climbing to Xiantaiding (15 kilometers from the sea), you can overlook the sea, from the mouth of Luanhe River to Qinhuangdao Port, from the Luanhe estuary in the west to Shanhaiguan Qinhuangdao Port in the east. The 15-kilometer-long mainland between the mountains and the sea lies quietly at your feet. The sea is boundless, and the sky and the sea are one. It is indeed a holy place for "Jieshi Sea Viewing". The predecessors listed the ten scenes of Jieshi Mountain, among which "Jieshi Sea Viewing" is the most spectacular. The other nine are Tianzhu Lingyun, Shuiyan Chunxiao, Shidong Qiufeng, Xizhang Paiqing, Dongfeng Songcui, Longpan Linghe, Fengzhu Xiangluan, Xiahui Zudu, and Xianying Canglang.

Philosophy related to the heritage

The natural landscape of Jieshi Mountain Scenic Area can be interpreted from different perspectives of Eastern philosophy and Western philosophy. In Eastern philosophy, especially Taoist thought, the harmonious coexistence of man and nature is emphasized. The landscape of Jieshi Mountain embodies the Taoist idea of "ruling by inaction", that is, nature has its own laws and rhythms, and people should not forcibly intervene. The majesty of the mountains and the softness of the streams are intertwined, symbolizing the balance of yin and yang and the dynamic harmony of the universe. From this philosophical perspective, Jieshi Mountain is not only a display of natural landscape, but also a profound reflection on the nature of life and the universe. From the perspective of Western philosophy, especially the perspective of naturalism and existentialism, Jieshi Mountain can be regarded as a part of human exploration and understanding of nature. Western philosophy advocates rational thinking and control and conquest of nature. The grandeur and magnificence of Jieshi Mountain show the awe and insignificance of human beings in the face of natural forces. The eternity and changes of mountains and rivers reflect the meaning of human existence in the flow of time, reminding people to find their place in the vastness of nature. The two philosophical perspectives together urge us to think deeply about nature, to both conform to its laws and to recognize the limitations of human beings within it.
