The custom of the Fujian-Taiwan ferry crossing in Shishi during the Dragon Boat Festival is a water Dragon Boat Festival celebration jointly held by people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits in Hanjiang, Shishi City, Fujian Province. "Water splashing on land in Yunnan, water splashing on the sea in Hanjiang." It is a folk custom that has long been famous in the world. The Dragon Boat Festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month is one of the oldest traditional festivals of the Chinese nation. The Shishi Hanjiang Dragon Boat Festival has a unique style of racing and splashing water to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. The sea splashing of Hanjiang was formed in the Ming Dynasty and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. Because Hanjiang is located at the mouth of Quanzhou Bay, the wind and waves are strong, and it is not suitable for dragon boat racing, so the unique custom of splashing water on the sea during the Dragon Boat Festival was created. Hanjiang is located in the north of Shishi City, Fujian Province. It was an important port on the southeast coast during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. In the Qing Dynasty, Hanjiang was the central port for inland trade with Taiwan Island. The "Newly Built Hanjiang Coast Defense Office Stele" erected in the 11th year of Jiaqing (1806) and well preserved to this day records that "Hanjiang is the main port of Quanzhou, and it is connected to Luzigang in Taiwan by ferry", so the people usually call this stele "the ferry stele". The "Lugang Fengtian Temple Records" in Taiwan also records the "Hanjiang and Lugang ferry" in the 49th year of Qianlong (1784) in the Qing Dynasty. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, tens of thousands of people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait held the "King's Boat Release" ceremony in Hanjiang, and at the same time performed traditional folk activities such as picking lotus, splashing water on the sea, dragon boat racing, and catching ducks. On the same day, Lugang in Taiwan held a "sending spring grain" ceremony, which corresponded to the "King's Boat Release" activity in Hanjiang. This custom is a "historical reappearance" of the ferry between Hanjiang in the mainland and Lugang in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty, and plays an important role in the cultural exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
