The artistic styles of Mayang Lantern Opera are integrated, forming the differences in the styles of lantern performances in the upper and lower mountainous areas of Mayang. "Dancing Lanterns", also known as "Martial Lanterns". Distributed in the upper mountainous area of Mayang, it is mostly sung and danced by adults, focusing on dance performances, with strong jumping movements and flexible performances. The lyrics are mainly about love and social life, showing a fast-paced and rough style. "Placing Lanterns" in Lower Mayang, also known as "Wen Lanterns". Distributed in the lower mountainous area of Mayang, it is mostly sung and danced by children, focusing on singing, with soft and delicate dance movements and more lyrical, and the lyrics are mainly about singing about ancient people, customs and life, and marriage, showing a slow-paced and soft style. In the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1901), Mayang lantern artist Nie Bangbang used the routine of Yang Opera "Liu Hai Cutting Wood" to perform the lantern repertoire "Lai 1 Greeting the New Year", which pioneered the dramatic creation of Xiangxi lanterns and made Mayang lanterns known as "lantern opera". After 1949, Mayang Lantern Opera developed into a comprehensive opera art that integrates singing, dancing and music. During the performance, the roles of Dan and Chou sing and dance with music, or Dan and Chou dance with the band accompanying the music, which reflects the high degree of harmony and unity of the three art genres of singing, dancing and music. Since 1964, Mayang Lantern Opera artists have been boldly innovative. While promoting and developing the art of lantern singing and dancing, they have created and transplanted nearly 100 lantern operas such as "Welcoming the Bride", "Paper Stickers", "Yellow Flowers on the Battlefield" and "Shajiabang". "Mayang Lantern Opera" has gradually developed into one of the local reserved small operas in Hunan Province. In 1990, it was included in the "Hunan Local Operas". In 2007, Mayang Lantern Opera was selected into the first batch of intangible cultural heritage list of Huaihua City. In 2009, Mayang Lantern Opera was selected into the second batch of intangible cultural heritage list of Hunan Province.
