Xinchang has been a poetic place with outstanding people and beautiful scenery since ancient times. For thousands of years, the folks have developed and inherited the production skills of bricks and tiles and brick carvings of ancient buildings in Jiangnan, that is, traditional brick and tile production skills, and have been relatively completely protected and inherited. Relying on this intangible cultural heritage project, many traditional brick and tile production companies such as Tiangongfang Brick and Tile Co., Ltd. have been built in the area of Yangyu Village, Yulin Street. The ancient skills still play an important role in the modern Xinchang farmers' road to prosperity. Traditional bricks and tiles are made through a complex process. First, according to the pattern, the corresponding mold is made; secondly, the clay is made into embryos, put into the kiln for several days, and the kiln can be taken out after the water is cooled. Although the tiles are basically made, this is only a general primary processing. If it is to be finely processed, it must be aged, mainly to polish and refine the carved parts to make them more valuable for preservation. The square bricks are made after the processes of mud selection, mud training, blank making, kiln loading, water storage, kiln discharge, and polishing. Its preservation value will be self-evident. The emergence of such a well-made and beautiful brick is a product of the survival of the working people under the rule of high pressure and power, but its continuation is the inheritance of a traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Brick carving closely combines the principles of architectural structure and the shapes of various structures, with clever layout and careful carving, giving building materials a lively life, interpreting Chinese traditional culture with different themes, shapes and functions, so that it can be passed down for thousands of years and can be appreciated and admired by future generations. However, with the rapid development of the economy and society and the sharp increase in population, the traditional residential structure and model have also undergone tremendous changes. New buildings such as apartment-style buildings have replaced traditional buildings, so the use of bricks and brick carvings in ancient buildings has been greatly reduced. Brick and tile production and brick carving are complex manual labor with high skills. There are practical factors such as the special raw materials, extremely high soil quality requirements, strict and complicated refining process, long production cycle, and large labor input. Many brick carving artists are unwilling to engage in this work all year round. Due to the special structure of the kiln for firing bricks and tiles, even if it is stopped for 3 months, the temperature will be as high as 600C, causing some brick carving artists to change their careers and find other ways out. Especially young people are more reluctant to learn and inherit, causing the brick carving production skills to gradually shrink and be on the verge of being lost. In June 2012, it was included in the fourth batch of Zhejiang Province's intangible cultural heritage list.
