As a Chinese folk handicraft, the history of dough sculpture (also called dough figurine) can be traced back to the Han Dynasty more than 2,000 years ago. In the "Fengshi Wenjianji Liu" written by Feng Yan, there is a sentence "During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong, the whole country set up support, funeral processions or set up sacrifices in the streets, hanging curtains, fake flowers, fake fruits, and powdered human face tents." Archaeological excavations in Xinjiang and other places have also found remnants of dough sculptures, which shows that it has been passed down for a long time. And after being spread, each part of the country has formed its own production schools, some of which are passed down from family to master, and they have continued to this day. The so-called dough sculpture is to use glutinous rice flour and dough, add color materials and preservatives, and knead into various small figures or animal shapes for worship or gifts. Among them, glutinous rice flour has strong adhesion and toughness, flour has flexibility and fusion, and color materials are mainly bright colors. The production process is as follows: mixing powder, mixing glutinous rice flour and flour in proportion with water into a dough; adding color, kneading different pigments and preservatives into the dough; fermentation, fermenting at a certain temperature for more than 10 hours; making, kneading various figures or animals according to the requirements or imagination. The production tools include powder mixing buckets, powder kneading boards, color trays, scissors, small wooden sticks or bamboo sticks for fixing dough figures or ingredients, etc. The characteristics to be mastered during production are "one printing, two pinching, three inlaying, and four rolling", and the production of figures pays attention to "the chest of a scholar, the belly of a warrior, the back of an old man, and the waist of a beautiful woman". This skill is now inherited by Ding Yier, and the relevant departments will provide support and help and include it in the protection project.
