The Legend of Li Daluan
Li Daluan was from Liuyang, Hunan. His family had been farmers for generations. His father was persecuted by landlords and died in middle age. He had to flee with his sister and cousin Yang Qingshan. They went to Huanggang in Yifeng, Ganfang in Fengxin, Shuangkeng in Tonggu and other places to help paper trough owners make paper. In 1574 AD (the second year of Wanli), his brother and sister and his cousin Yang Qingshan officially started an uprising in Dawei Mountain, Tonggu, and raised the banner of "robbing the rich to help the poor", resisting taxes and grain, arresting and killing corrupt officials, and opening warehouses everywhere to help the poor. They received active responses from the shed dwellers from all directions, and soon gathered a team of 70,000 people. In order to establish a reliable base, he proclaimed himself "King of Chu", but was later suppressed by the court, leaving behind many related legends.
