Ruichang is located in the west of northern Jiangxi Province, on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. There are more than 60,000 mu of bamboo here, including nearly ten varieties of bamboo, including moso bamboo, tendon bamboo, water bamboo, etc. Ruichang bamboo weaving has a long history. The local Shang and Zhou ancient copper smelting site has unearthed a complete bamboo basket for transporting ore. Over the past thousands of years, after the inheritance and development of countless artists, Ruichang bamboo weaving has formed its own unique style. Ruichang bamboo weaving has complex procedures, high weaving requirements, and great difficulty. In addition, there are many varieties, and the related weaving work is difficult to replace with modern machine production. In Ruichang, bamboo weaving is indispensable everywhere, and bamboo weaving skills are closely related to people's lives. The main products of Ruichang bamboo weaving include beds, tables, chairs, stools, cabinets, dustpans, rice sieves, baskets, mats, etc. In recent years, more than 100 varieties have been developed, including flower pots, flower baskets, chickens, ducks, turtles, fruit boxes, birds and animals, and gift boxes. These bamboo weaving products are exquisite, beautiful and practical, and are rare craft products. At present, this traditional handicraft is gradually moving out of the forest area and into modern metropolises to seek development. On the other hand, Ruichang bamboo weaving skills are complicated and difficult to master, so young people are reluctant to learn and inherit, and old artists are getting older and many of them can no longer continue to work. Ruichang bamboo weaving skills lack successors, and the future is worrying, and it is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
