Qianshan, located in Shangrao City, is famous for its Liansi paper. The paper industry in this area was well-known both at home and abroad during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Gao Lian's "Zunsheng Bajian" listed "Qianshan Paper" as a fine product of the Yuan Dynasty, praising it as "beautiful, brilliant, and world-renowned". Song Yingxing's "Tiangong Kaiwu" recorded Qianshan papermaking in several places, explained Liansi and Cambodian paper, and gave it high praise. Jian Bozan also said in "Outline of Chinese History": "In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the business of some cities became increasingly prosperous. At that time, cities with relatively significant industrial and commercial development, except for the two capitals in the north and the south, were roughly distributed in three regions: Jiangnan, the southeast coast, and the canal coast. Among them, Jiangnan was the most prosperous. Five major handicraft areas have been formed here, namely the cotton textile industry in Songjiang, the silk weaving industry in Suzhou and Hangzhou, the pulping and dyeing industry in Wuhu, the papermaking industry in Qianshan, and the porcelain industry in Jingdezhen. They have maintained very close commercial ties with each other." In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the paper industry population accounted for three or four tenths of the local total population. In 1937, Liansi paper was introduced in the Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi Specialty Products Exhibition: "Jiangxi is the most prosperous region for traditional handicraft papermaking, and its paper quality is also the best in the country. More than half of the 83 counties in the province produce paper, and Qianshan and Wanzai are the best. Among them, the rough edges of Qianshan Lianshi, Guanshan and Taihe are the most famous. In addition to being sold nationwide, a large amount is also sold in Japan, Southeast Asia and other places." The later Commercial Press edition of "Ciyuan" has a special " "Lianshi Paper": "A kind of paper. Formerly known as Liansi paper, also known as cotton paper. The raw material is bamboo. It is white in color, quite fine in texture, and the color and texture remain unchanged for a long time. In the old days, it was often used for valuable books, steles, deeds, calligraphy and paintings, and fan leaves. It is produced in Jiangxi and Fujian, especially in Qianshan County, Jiangxi. The best product is called Lingsha paper, followed by Liansi paper, or Liansi, now mistakenly called Lianshi paper. "During its heyday, there were more than 1,400 paper troughs producing Liansi paper in Qianshan. There are many varieties of Liansi paper in Qianshan, and the most common one is ordinary Liansi. Others include Longpai Lian, which has the same paper width as ordinary Liansi, but is twice as thick, suitable for writing and painting, and can be used as letter paper. Improved Lian, the paper width and paper quality are the same as ordinary Liansi, with the addition of alum, rosin, clay, small powder, etc., with a thick and fine texture, a smooth paper surface, no ink seepage or ink smudges, and can be used for calligraphy, painting, printing, and fountain pen writing. Haiyuelian is an improvement on Sailian. It is waterproof and suitable for engraving, printing and writing with a fountain pen. Dapi paper, also known as drawing paper and Chongxuan, has the same whiteness as ordinary Liansi, but is thicker. It is used by the people to print genealogies and is also called music paper. The manufacturing of Qianshan Liansi paper is purely manual, with more than 160 processes: 1. The production process of bamboo paper: cutting bamboo strips, drying in the shade of the mountain, cutting strips on the mountain, rinsing in overlapping ponds, rinsing in clear water, peeling bamboo shells, washing and drying bamboo strips, stepping on bamboo strip cylinders, pulping bamboo strips, mold ponds, hammering bamboo strips, washing and hanging bamboo strips, pulping ash, steaming ash, ash, washing out of the pot, washing out of the pond, washing out of the pot, boiling, boiling out of the pot, washing out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, boiling out of the pot, rinsing ... 2. Paper bleaching process: bleaching yellow cake, picking and re-frying materials, re-frying, pulling water out of the pan, bleaching and re-frying cakes, picking white cakes, frying in white pans, taking out white materials, picking water materials, and beating materials. 3. Pulp and papermaking process: washing pulp, enlarging tank, adding paper medicine, papermaking, paper pressing, paper straightening, and storage. Paper materials need to be naturally bleached after being exposed to the sun and rain for several months. The production cycle is about one year. The key technology in the manufacturing process is water quality. All water that comes into contact with flushing, soaking, bleaching and washing cannot be polluted. The requirements for pulp washing and subsequent processes are particularly harsh, and local spring water must be used. The second is the preparation of medicine, which is made from local specialty water egg worm trees, and others are slightly inferior. Qianshan Liansi Paper has typical characteristics and unique value: it uses bamboo from a specific period as raw material, uses local firewood to burn lime mold ponds, uses bamboo alkali and wood alkali for steaming, and uses water egg worm trees to extract and prepare medicine. It has high requirements for the pH value of water bodies, and each process relies on natural running water and natural forces to complete. Liansi paper is white and bright, tender and dense, smooth and flexible, insect-proof and heat-resistant, and does not change color. It is called "millennium longevity paper". It is a masterpiece of my country's traditional handicraft industry and has played a great role in inheriting and spreading Chinese civilization. In the past, a considerable part of the great works and precious books were made of Liansi paper, and many calligraphy and paintings, seal collections, and rubbings were also printed and circulated on it. At the same time, the production process of Liansi paper is numerous and complicated, requiring meticulous and strict requirements, and it is difficult to completely replace it with modern technology.
