Yiyang Opera is an ancient opera in my country. In the middle of the Southern Song Dynasty, the southern opera that originated in Zhejiang was introduced to Jiangxi via the Xinjiang River. In Yiyang, it was combined with local dialects and folk music to give birth to a new local opera, Yiyang Opera, in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It was listed as one of the four major operas at that time, along with Kunshan Opera, Yuyao Opera, and Haiyan Opera. Yiyang Opera is centered in Yiyang and is mainly inherited and continued in some areas of Jiangxi Province, such as Guixi, Wannian, Leping, Poyang, Fuliang, and Shangrao. In the early and middle Ming Dynasty, it was spread to Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Beijing. Yiyang Opera repertoires are divided into two categories: serial dramas and legendary plays. The former include "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", "The Water Margin", "The Biography of Yue Fei", "The Biography of Mulian", "The Biography of the Gods", etc., and the latter include "The Green Plum Festival", "The Ancient City Festival", "Dingtian Mountain", "The Story of the Golden Sable", "The Story of Pearls", "The Story of Selling Water", etc. Since its birth, Yiyang Opera has been widely spread among the people for its artistic characteristics of "fabricating a hundred ways" of continuous opera and "misusing local dialect". The roles of Yiyang Opera are divided into Xiaosheng, Zhengsheng, Laosheng, Erhua, Sanhua, Xiaodan, Zhengdan, Laodan and other lines. Its singing structure initially adopted the qupai linked set, and was only supplemented by gongs and drums without orchestral accompaniment. One actor sang and several others followed the tune, forming a very characteristic "singing alone and helping with the tune" singing method. In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the rolling tune that broke the qupai linked set system was developed, further enhancing the drama and expressiveness of the vocal music. In the process of widespread dissemination, Yiyang Opera has spawned many variants, thus forming a high-pitched tune system, which has had an important influence on more than 40 vocal operas in the north and south, and promoted the development of Chinese local folk operas. Yiyang Opera is a wonder of Chinese traditional culture, and its contribution to the development of Chinese opera, especially Chinese local opera, is irreplaceable. Yiyang Opera has continued to this day, showing a strong artistic vitality. In the past two decades, due to various reasons, the inheritance of Yiyang Opera has fallen into a difficult situation. The performing team is seriously aging, the troupe is in name only, and many excellent repertoires and singing tunes are on the verge of being lost. Even in the places where it was popular, Yiyang Opera has not been able to meet the audience for many years and has fallen into the embarrassing situation of being forgotten. This situation must be taken seriously by relevant parties, and favorable measures must be taken to change it.
