Yiyang Drum is a new style of drum book that appeared in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is a new singing art that evolved from local folk music such as folk songs and filial songs. Since the early 20th century, it has gradually occupied the position of the rap art center in the Xincheng area at that time, and has become the most important singing art form in the next 100 years. Yiyang Drum has gone through a long process from its origin to its formal formation. In the 1930s, this legacy of "Yiyang Drum" began to rise rapidly in Wanhe, Tianhekou, Xincheng, Yindian and other places. By 1977, it was collected and sorted again by the local cultural department, and the singing tune was fixed in the form of music score. It was included in the "Chinese Quyi Music Collection Hubei Volume", adding a flower of art with local characteristics to my country's rap art, and preserving this endangered song intact. According to the information available now, this kind of drum book began to prevail in Yiyang County around the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. When singing "Yiyang Drum" at first, the artist held the board in his left hand and beat the drum with his right hand. The drum was flat, with a diameter of 25-30 cm and a thickness of about 7 cm. When telling stories, the drum was placed on a tripod made of mangosteen; at that time, in addition to the drum book, there were also a wake-up wood chair, a paper fan, and a handkerchief for the performers to perform various characters according to the story. The program of "Yiyang Drum" storytelling: before opening the hall to tell stories, first beat the wake-up wood to quiet the scene, then the poem, after the poem, use "Yiya Yiyayo" to smooth the tune, and then sing two sentences to enter the story. The singing of "Yiyang Drum" is divided into: "Qiban, Pingban, Liaozi, Beiqiang, Duozi". At that time, most of the singers of Yiyang Drum had a certain cultural quality and social status. When singing, they paid attention to dressing and wearing long gowns, top hats, and white-soled cloth shoes with "thousand-layer soles". The singers' repertoires are mostly about persuading good deeds and climbing the road, so the artists are called "sirs". In the process of development, Yiyang Drum gradually absorbed a variety of mature traditional rap forms since the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and became increasingly rich and detailed. In this way, the classic rap art "Yiyang Drum" after the late Ming and early Qing dynasties continued to be active on the stage, and re-stimulated the vitality of art in the competition with various local folk arts. On the other hand, in the competition of stage performances, the artistic elements of "Yiyang Drum" were absorbed by various local folk arts, which contributed to the prosperity and birth of local folk art. The emerging "Yiyang Drum" embodies the modern art performance form. To a large extent, it has adopted the previous "Yiyang Drum" business and performance system, while overcoming the drawbacks of obscure language, thus winning the support of the audience and becoming an important drum book style in Hubei, and even becoming one of the favorite arts of local men, women and children. Yiyang Drum, a traditional folk art performance art, has been widely recognized by the society after being passed down by several generations. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
