Tongshan Neihua earthenware firing technique is a traditional skill project in the second batch of representative projects of Xuzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. It is said that the Tongshan Neihua earthenware firing technique originated in the Han Dynasty, developed in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were kilns firing earthenware in and outside Neihua Village, with smoke and fire everywhere and pottery piled up like mountains. Around 1949, there were more than a dozen kilns firing earthenware in Neihua Village, and the annual firing of earthenware reached more than 100,000 sets (pieces). During the "Cultural Revolution", due to historical reasons, Neihua earthenware firing was forced to stop. After the reform and opening up, production gradually resumed, but the scale was not as large as before. Tongshan Neihua earthenware firing uses the soil about one meter below the surface of Neihua Village as the main raw material. This soil is dark brown and black-red, shaped like garlic cloves, soaked in water, as fine as flour, smooth to the touch, and highly plastic. The process is divided into taking soil and drying it, stepping on the mud to wake up the mud, making "canzi", connecting it, drying it, loading the kiln, firing the kiln, closing the kiln, and taking it out of the kiln. The main tools for the firing technique of Tongshan Neihua earthenware pottery include stone-, cage (basket) frame, top hammer (reverse), hammer, scraper, mud shovel, firewood and more than ten kinds.
