Xueqiao Village is known as the "No. 1 Weaving Village in Northern Jiangsu". Xueqiao Village is located in the northwest of Tongshan District (formerly Jiuli District). It has a warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate, which is suitable for the growth of sorghum straw, the raw material of Xueqiao straw weaving. It can grow sorghum straw in red, yellow, white, milky white and other colors. Xueqiao straw weaving craft was very prosperous in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. After 1949, everyone in Xueqiao Village, young and old, could weave straw, such as steamed buns, straw mounds, and combs. Girls had to bring straw weaving when they got married. People from other villages also went to Xueqiao to order or went to the market to buy straw weaving products for their daughters. In the 1960s, straw weaving was done by collective organizations, and production teams recorded work points according to quantity and quality. With the reform and opening up, the household contract responsibility system was implemented. In the late 1980s, it became individual production. With the development of social economy, due to the emergence of a variety of substitutes, the use of straw weaving products has been continuously reduced. Now only a small number of elderly people still insist on this skill, and few young and middle-aged people under the age of 40 can master this skill. Xueqiao straw weaving craft uses sorghum straw and wheat straw as the main raw materials, integrating various skills such as weaving, tying and cutting. Its types are divided into kitchen utensils and agricultural tools. Its main products include: steamed bun baskets, steamed bun baskets, pot hats, steamed bun plates, straw mounds, etc. Xueqiao straw weaving craft is purely handmade, and the main processes are surrounding, tying, wearing and weaving.
