Yunlongshan Temple Fair is a folk custom project in the first batch of representative projects of Xuzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Yunlongshan Temple Fair, formerly known as "Dashiyan Temple Fair", is commonly known as "Yunlongshan Fair". During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Jiang Chao, the governor of Xuzhou, found a white-veined boulder in the foundation when he built a monk's house on the west slope of the mountain, and ordered people to carve it into a jade-belted Guanyin who gave birth to a child. Many women learned about it and came to worship in order to have a son as soon as possible. Later, the date for seeking a child gradually concentrated on the 19th day of the second lunar month, and the monks of Xinghua Temple performed rituals on this day to celebrate the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva and fulfill the wishes of those who wanted a child. Many people came. Danshou Temple added fuel to the fire and raised funds to build a theater. Opposite the theater, a 53-step platform was built as a seat for watching the play, and it meant that Shancai Tongzi paid homage to various gods 53 times. Every 19th day of the second lunar month, a big play was performed for three days, and the Yunlongshan Temple was formed. During the temple fair, some people worship Buddha on the mountain, and some pray to Guanyin for children. Various local specialties, folk handicrafts, and traditional snacks are sold on the mountain and down the mountain, which is very lively. The three days before and after the 19th day of the second lunar month are the temple fair time. There are hundreds of thousands of people coming from all directions of Xuzhou to attend the fair. The people who go to the temple fair are like a surging long dragon, which is very spectacular. The Yunlong Mountain Temple Fair mainly affects the five counties (cities), six districts and surrounding areas of Xuzhou. The participating masses are all over the bordering areas of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui. The Xuzhou Yunlong Mountain Temple Fair has been passed down for hundreds of years and has a long history. During this period, it has experienced the historical changes of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China, experienced the invasion of wars and yellow plagues, and experienced the suffering of displacement and migration. The temple fair persisted and fully demonstrated and embodied the long history of the Xuzhou area. It is of great value for the research of religious culture, agricultural production, wars and floods in the Xuzhou area. The Yunlongshan Temple Fair is also a conference for the exchange of trade and materials. People from all walks of life from bordering areas such as Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, and even further areas come to Xu to worship, beg, and exchange materials.
