Tongzhou Folk SongsNantong is bordered by the Yellow Sea in the east and the Yangtze River in the south. It has a suitable climate, abundant resources and a prosperous population. It is a famous land of fish and rice. Throughout the ages, our ancestors worked from sunrise to sunset on this land. In order to inspire labor morale and overcome natural disasters, Tongzhou folk songs came into being. It faithfully records the ups and downs of the ancestors of Nantong and condenses the wisdom and sweat of the ancestors of Nantong for thousands of years. At the same time, Nantong is located at the beginning of Wu and the end of Chu. Wu culture and Chu culture blend and intersect. Our ancestors brought the regional culture of their original place of residence, which has both mutual integration and relatively independent parts, thus forming a situation where Wu and Chu cultures coexist, creating Tongzhou folk songs with distinct local characteristics. Tongzhou folk songs have solo and duet, and the more common ones are group singing. The singing style is "one person leads the singing, and everyone responds." The lyrics are free and broad, and the lead singer's improvisation is the main creation. Among them, the "leading sentence" is longer and the "combining sentence" is slightly shorter. After the lead line is sung, the chorus line is sung. The lyrics are closely coordinated with the rhythm of labor and harmoniously blended. The local accent and local sentiments intersect with people's simple emotions. In the heavy and monotonous labor process, emotions are adjusted and enthusiasm is increased, so as to achieve the purpose of expressing emotions and eliminating fatigue. In terms of singing style, Tongzhou folk songs have steady intonation, powerful pronunciation, clear articulation, and flexibility, which truly embodies the rough national singing style.
