Mapu Gongs and Drums is a traditional music item in the first batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Mapu Gongs and Drums were first created during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty and have a history of more than 100 years. It is a very famous folk drum music in Jiangning District and its surrounding counties. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the uncle of Wang Debao, a villager in Mapu Village, came to Mapu Village from Nanjing and taught the gong and drum skills to Wang Debao's father and cousin, forming a gong and drum team to perform in Mapu Village and surrounding villages. They constantly absorbed gong and drum tunes from all sides in their performances, enriched and developed gong and drum performance skills, and after years of performance practice, correction and innovation, they formed the Mapu Gongs and Drums that have been passed down to this day. Its performance skills are superior and its style is unique, which can be called a unique one in the local area. Mapu Gongs and Drums is a performance form with a high artistic level among the folk percussion music in Jiangning District and its surrounding areas. The instruments of Mapu Gongs and Drums performances are gorgeously decorated, the percussion is exquisite, the tunes are numerous, the rhythm is brisk, the rhythm is ups and downs, and the staccato requires absolute, uniform and correct. The Mapu gongs and drums have been handed down from generation to generation until today. In the 1930s and 1940s, they spread to Lukou, Moling, Dongshanqiao and other places, and also spread around Jiangning. In July 2007, CCTV Channel 7 reported on it.
