Guilin Yugu is named after the accompaniment instrument "Yugu", commonly known as Daoqing, which originated from the ancient narrative storytelling Daoqing. It is a type of drum music Daoqing classification and one of the representative folk art forms in Guangxi. Guilin Yugu is sung in Guilin dialect. When singing, the left hand holds the Yugu and the right hand holds the board, singing and beating according to the rhythm. This singing form originated from Daoqing. The melody is a single song with 4 sentences in a group. When singing, 4 sentences are turned and repeated many times until the end. The lyrics are required to be vivid and colloquial, basically 7-character sentences, with double rhymes and one rhyme to the end. It narrates stories with characters and plots, and can be sung in short, medium or long pieces. The singers were originally one person with multiple roles, but now they have developed into 2 or more people rapping and performing. Its melody is divided into southern route and northern route. The northern route is high-pitched and bright, while the southern route is soft and deep. Guilin Yugu is one of the representative folk art forms in Guangxi. Since its formation, it has accumulated very rich cultural connotations and has a value that cannot be underestimated.
