The Yao people of Lianshan often play the Eight-tone Music to celebrate weddings, housewarmings, birthdays and other happy events. Sometimes during the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, they also play together to add a festive and lively atmosphere to the festival. The Yao Eight-tone Music is mainly spread in the Sanshui Yao area. It is usually composed of eight people: one person plays the drum, gong, and cymbals, two people play the suona, one person plays the large and small cymbals, and one person is used for rotation or to carry instruments.
