The "Huangge Qilin" has been popular for more than a hundred years. For more than a hundred years, during festivals, birthdays, and autumn outings, farmers danced the Qilin to express their wishes for good fortune and pray for good weather, peace and prosperity, so there is a saying among the people that "Qilin brings good luck". The Huangge Qilin dance comes from the folks and has strong local characteristics. The Huangge Qilin dance, which has been re-adapted by folk artists, has been improved from the shape of the Qilin to the dance skills. It has also added the popular Guangdong music "Victory Order", and organically integrated the gongs, drums, Guangdong big flute performances, singles and other eight-tone gongs and drums as accompaniment, which is full of warm and festive atmosphere and strong Guangdong characteristics. On November 9, 2000, the Qilin team composed of more than 30 authentic farmers from Datang Village, Huangge Town, represented Guangdong Province in the "Shanhua Award" First National Folk Square Song and Dance Competition held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The "Huangge Qilin Dance" they performed competed with 18 folk art performance teams from all over the country in the finals. These teams were selected from more than 200 teams across the country. In the end, the Huangge Qilin team won the first place in the "Mountain Flower Award" with the first place in the total score, and also won the "Golden Osmanthus Award", the highest award for folk art in Hangzhou. The Huangge Qilin Dance is a folk dance for self-entertainment. The shape of the "Qilin" is based on the image of a benevolent beast with a dragon head, a lion body, deer horns, a sheep head, and an ox tail in ancient legends. When dancing, it is a solo dance of a Qilin, with two dancers dancing the head and tail respectively, and dancing according to the specific artistic routines and dance skills of the Qilin Dance, such as "exiting the cave, circling the head, playing with the tail, looking for green, kicking green, eating green, getting drunk on green, spitting green, hitting sand, spitting jade books, visiting the garden, and returning to the cave". The dance is full of warm and festive atmosphere and strong Guangdong charm, and the rhythmic accompaniment of gongs, drums, and percussion music is used to show the image, vividness, and liveliness of the Qilin Dance. Huangge Qilin Dance expresses the working people's desire and yearning for a good harvest, a prosperous population, and a healthy and happy life. At the same time, Qilin Dance has strong entertainment and wide participation, and has a good role in promoting the cohesion of the people. Huangge Town proposed to build Huangge Qilin Culture as the brand culture of the town. In recent years, the Party Committee and the Town Government of Huangge Town have attached great importance to traditional folk art and mass cultural activities, and organized forces to excavate and sort out the Qilin Dance that was once interrupted. Since 2000, Huangge Qilin Dance was the only program in Guangdong Province to participate in the first National Square Folk Song and Dance Competition, and won the highest national folk art award "Mountain Flower Award" with the highest score, Huangge Qilin Dance has won many national awards and more than 20 provincial and municipal awards.
