The Yangkou Sea Opening Festival is a folk sacrificial activity formed by Yangkou fishermen in their long-term maritime operation customs. It is mainly about offering sacrifices to the river god, sea god, dragon king, ship god, Tianfei and other gods, praying for good weather, safety of people and ships, and returning with full warehouses. On the 16th day of the first lunar month every year, fishermen hold a ceremony at the mouth of Xiaoqing River in Yangkou Town in the north of Shouguang before going out to sea. Every household steams jujube-embedded buns in advance, prepares pig heads, big fried fish, black-haired roosters, various snacks, fruits, lettuce and other offerings, brings paper horses, banknotes, paper ingots, high incense, firecrackers, wears formal clothes, and carries lotus lanterns, carp lanterns, small boat lanterns and other small fishing lanterns, and rushes to the sacrificial site one after another. The local elders with a certain prestige burn incense, read the sacrificial text, and lead the crowd to burn paper, burn incense, toast, kneel and kowtow, and pray for the blessing of the sea. At the same time, people lit their homemade small fishing lanterns and put them into the water, which slowly floated away to offer to the gods, praying that the gods would protect the safety of the fishermen and their boats and return home early with full loads. Afterwards, firecrackers blasted, gongs and drums roared, dragons and lions leaped, land boats raced, yangko danced, incense smoked, and people gathered together in a joyous atmosphere.
