Dongping paper-cutting has a long history and is widely spread among the people. There is a custom of pasting red paper-cutting when children get married. The residents of Nanmen Street have loved paper-cutting since childhood. The themes are mostly flowers, birds and animals. The style is simple and honest. No draft is needed. First cut the shape, then hollow it out, and it is done in one go. In 2006, Nanmen paper-cutting works were selected for the first Taishan Folk Art Exhibition in Tai'an City. In 2007, the paper-cutting works Water Margin characters participated in the "Second Folk Art Exhibition of Dongping County" and won the Outstanding Creation Award, and were shortlisted for the first batch of intangible cultural heritage catalogues of Dongping County.
