During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, Miao Benlin, an artist who sang Zhui Zi Weng in Miaohu Village, Renzhai Township, Jieshou City, initiated the Miaohu rap meeting. At that time, there were three artists from Miaohu Village and five from neighboring villages. In 1939, the sixth-generation inheritor Miao Yuanpu designated the sixth day of the sixth lunar month of the leap year as the Miaohu Book Meeting to commemorate the 165th birthday of the first-generation initiator Miao Benlin. The five songs attracted people from all over the country, which was quite lively. Since then, the Miaohu Book Meeting has been continuously passed down and has developed to a certain extent. During the Cultural Revolution, it was silent for a time. In 1985, the famous artist Miao Qingchen contacted many famous artists from surrounding cities and counties to re-organize the Miaohu Book Meeting. The Miaohu Book Meeting lasts five days each time, and audiences from dozens of miles around come to watch the performance. It also attracted quyi performers from hundreds of miles around to participate in the performance. Quyi artists from Cao County, Shandong, Pei County, Jiangsu, Dawu County, Hubei, Zhoukou area, Henan, Fuyang area, and Suzhou area all attended the meeting to perform. At present, the book meeting has created more than 150 performance repertoires. These pieces have been well received by the public at previous book fairs.
