Dougang board dragon lantern
The Dougang Banlong Lantern in Wuwei County is a traditional folk lantern festival inherited by the local Xie family. The intervals range from more than ten years to several years. The masses spontaneously organize fundraising and donations to hold lantern dance celebrations. The dragon lantern has 19 sections, divided into three parts: the first section, the middle section, and the tail section. The lantern body is mainly made of a wooden base, bamboo as the skeleton, and white paper paste as the whole. It is illuminated by candles. The first section is in the shape of a dragon head, with beads in the cavity, whiskers on the lips, horns on the head, wings on the cheeks, hair on the shell, and scales on the body. The top of the head is shaped into 36 full-three-dimensional statues of Tathagata Buddha, Guanyin, Kuixing Dianyuan, Four Jinshi, Wukong, Bajie, etc., and 38 bright and dark fires. The middle section has a total of 17 sections, each section is roughly the same, but the front and back are gradually reduced in sequence. Each section has eight bright and dark fires. The dragon shape is made into an arched semicircular body, tilted forward, showing that the dragon body is full of tension. The tail section gradually becomes thinner, and the tail fan-shaped upper vertical twist is high and bent, and the bend clamps the dragon egg. At night, from a distance, the dragon lanterns are vivid and lifelike. When playing with lanterns, there are also cloud lanterns, unicorn lanterns, phoenix lanterns, portable lanterns, etc., accompanied by several bands, and the program is rich and colorful. Every year, audiences come from all directions to watch the lantern festival, and leaders of neighboring villages compete to receive and welcome lanterns. Every household hangs up lanterns and decorations, sets up dragon incense tables, places offerings, burns incense and kowtows, wishing for good weather, peace in the world, good harvests, everything goes well, and peace and prosperity for the country and the people.
