Shou County was once the capital of the Chu State during the Warring States Period. Chu culture has a profound accumulation. As a unique branch of Chu culture, Shouzhou gongs and drums are spread in Shou County and surrounding counties and cities along the Huai River Basin. They have integrated the essence of the traditional gongs and drums in the Huaihe River region, such as "Eighteen Fans", "Phoenix 0 Head", "Rabbit Bawou", "Long Flowing Water", "Big and Small Twisted Wires", "Double Twisted Wires", and "Small Five Fans", and have been adapted and developed. In addition to the usual large sieve gongs, large waist drums, large and small cymbals, cloud gongs, and hand gongs, the main gong used is called "steel gong", which has a crisp and loud sound that can be heard for miles. It has a strong flavor of Chu culture and is unique in the Huai River area. The performance of Shouzhou gongs and drums is led by the main gong player, supplemented by the drummer, forming a performance situation in which the drums and gongs take turns to lead, combining movement and stillness, and coordinating tacitly. Therefore, the performance of Shouzhou gongs and drums has the characteristics of soothing and softness of gongs and drums in southern my country, especially the "Ten-part gongs and drums" in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and the characteristics of high-pitched and passionate "majestic gongs and drums" in the northern Central Plains. It is known as the "talking gongs and drums". Shouzhou gongs and drums occupy an important position in the percussion music along the Huai River Basin. They are the product of the accumulation of ancient Chu culture and the remains of Chu music. It is of great significance to discover, rescue and protect Shouzhou gongs and drums. In recent years, Shouzhou gongs and drums have been invited to participate in the previous Anhui Flower Drum Lantern Festival, the Anhui Provincial National Day Gala for the 45th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, the Shanghai International Tourism Festival and the Shanghai National Agricultural Exhibition, and participated in the CCTV "Heart to Heart" Art Troupe's performance in Anhui, which is deeply loved by the masses.
