Sanhui Caitinghui is a traditional folk cultural activity that is popular in Sanhui Town, Qu County, Sichuan Province. It is characterized by pavilion modeling and performances. It is performed in the streets or squares from the 16th to the 18th day of the third lunar month every year. Sanhui Town is located on the west side of the northern section of Huaying Mountain in eastern Sichuan, across Zhouhe River, Bahe River, and Qujiang River. It has developed transportation, rich products, and a large number of merchants. The economy is active. Caitinghui was born and developed in this special geographical environment. In the early Qing Dynasty, Caitinghui began to form in Sanhui, and gradually flourished from the middle and late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. After the founding of New China, Sanhui Caitinghui became the main form of local folk cultural activities and played an important role in the cultural life of the masses. The Caiting is the most prominent performance form in the Caiting Festival. During the performance, a slender pole with a bottom column and sections connected end to end is erected on a platform of about four square meters. The bracket (iron ring) on the pole extends horizontally and diagonally. "Young children are dressed up as theatrical makeup, tied to the pole, and carried by a mechanical ring to play around." The characters and stories in the play or life are played out, stacked into three to five layers, eight to ten meters high, "four people carry it and walk on the streets and the amusement docks." During the performance, the Caiting sways slowly, as if it is falling but not falling, showing the characteristics of "high, shocking, dangerous, strange and clever", which makes the audience feel soul-stirring and amazed. In addition to the Caiting, there are more than ten kinds of folk art performances in the Caiting Festival, such as dragon lanterns, lions, and stilts. During the Caiting Festival, "men and women visit and watch, filling the streets and alleys, and the neighboring scholars and women come from hundreds of miles away to compete for the grand event, which is almost like a national frenzy."
