Before the reform and opening up, bamboo dragons and grass dragons were used to make dragon and lion lanterns. During the performance, the upper body danced along the street, and the onlookers sprayed water or fireworks with bamboo joints and iron yarn, and the lion lantern followed the dragon's tail. From the first to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month every year, dragon and lion dances were performed in Hongge Street and nearby places. After the New Year, grass dragons were burned on the fifteenth day to pray for rain. After the reform and opening up, the villagers formed dragon teams and phoenix teams to perform dragon and lion dances. As the craft of making bamboo dragons and grass dragons was lost, several bamboo dragons were purchased from other places. The skills of dragon performance were constantly improved and innovated according to the feelings of the dragon performers, and 40 dragon dance movements and shapes such as two-person standing legs, three-person standing legs, eight-person ingots, four-person square tables, eight characters, mountain characters, Great Wall, and double bridges were retained. Lion and dragon lanterns are usually performed for self-entertainment during the farmers' rest period. They are also invited to participate in performances at weddings and funerals, celebrations of harvests, New Year celebrations and large-scale events. They have been performed many times in the city, county and surrounding areas, enriching rural cultural life, improving the quality of life, promoting national fitness and spiritual civilization construction, and have a great influence and distinct local characteristics in the local area. In July 2019, the "Lion and Dragon Lantern" was announced by the Yanbian County People's Government as the third batch of Yanbian County's intangible cultural heritage list.
