Weather proverbs, also known as agricultural proverbs, are widely circulated among the Chinese people about weather changes. Because science and technology were not developed when most weather proverbs were generated, they only described the phenomenon without making scientific explanations and lacked theoretical data support. However, after continuous practice, weather proverbs have considerable credibility and are sufficient for daily use. Chongming Island has a history of more than 1,300 years. In order to adapt to and change production and living conditions in the practices of farming in the fields, fishing at sea, and maritime shipping, the islanders must understand and master climate change. The islanders compared the astronomical phenomena and physical images found in daily life with the actual weather changes, and gradually realized the relationship between them. After repeated discoveries, gradual accumulation, and continuous evolution, they gradually became the weather proverbs that are easy to remember and well-known today, which have played a great role in people's production and life practices. Chongming weather proverbs are all-encompassing, from astronomical phenomena to physical images, and can be applied to agriculture, fisheries, shipping and other aspects, with a wide range of applications. Although meteorological science has entered the 21st century of high-tech modernization, these weather proverbs still have their unique cognitive role and unique application value in understanding and mastering the laws of weather changes and predicting the weather.
