The Bulang people live in Bulang Mountain, Xiding and Bada in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The rest are scattered in Yunxian, Zhenkang, Gengma, Shuangjiang in Lincang area and Lancang, Jingdong, Jinggu and Mojiang counties in Simao area. Bulang men wear a collarless short jacket with a front opening and black baggy long trousers. They wrap their heads with black or white cloth, which is five feet to ten feet long. Older men also have the habit of growing their hair in a bun on top of their heads. In the past, men, women, old and young were barefoot all year round. Men generally had tattoos with various patterns on their limbs, abdomen and back. Bulang women mostly wear tight collarless short jackets, and some wear collared and large-breasted tops. The colors of the clothes are mainly black or navy blue. The top is long to below the waist, slightly longer than the Dai clothes, with front opening or two front openings covering each other. They wear double-layered tube skirts, which are shorter than Dai skirts. They usually wear light-colored inner skirts at home, and dark outer skirts with floral decorations when they go out, usually revealing two or three inches of the inner skirt. Some wear a belt around their waists and leggings on their calves. They wear their hair in a bun and a big bun, which is about ten feet long. The bun is often decorated with silver chains, silver bells and other accessories with red velvet tassels, and the earlobes are also decorated with bright and eye-catching red velvet tassels on silver discs. Necklaces, bracelets, backpacks and other places are also decorated with metal parts and red velvet tassels. Young girls like to wear flowers on their heads. The Bulang people have a unique custom of "dying teeth". They believe that only teeth that are dyed black are the strongest and most beautiful. Only young men and women who have dyed their teeth have the right to fall in love.
