Zhenba Yugu is one of the main types of folk music in the southern Shaanxi region. It is mainly distributed in Yanchang Town, Guanyin Town, Jingyang Town and Qingshui Township in Zhenba County. It is also distributed in neighboring counties such as Xixiang, Nanzheng, Ziyang, Hanyin in Shaanxi Province and Wanyuan and Tongjiang in Sichuan. Zhenba Yugu is a Shaanxi local music that uses Hanzhong Zhenba dialect as the basic voice for singing and speaking, one person sings multiple roles, and uses a complex of tunes and banqiang to tell stories. It was popular in Zhenba in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is said that its origin was brought in by immigrants from Sichuan and Hubei, and it has a close relationship with Sichuan's "bamboo harp". There are rich repertoires, many artists, and it is widely spread. Locals call Zhenba Yugu "Yugutong", "Daotong", "Zhuqin", etc. Zhenba Yugu has a long history. Yugu has been formed since the Tang Dynasty. It flourished in the late Qing and early Ming dynasties and the 1950s after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The long bridge of Zhenba Yugu is a middle-board cavity, and its board styles include [one-character board] (one board with three eyes), [two-six boards], [flat board], and [crying tune]. The board style is not very high. The qupai part is composed of folk songs and other opera qupai, such as zaqiang and Daoqing. The connection between the board style and the qupai is relatively flexible, and there is a certain set in large-scale repertoires. The main instruments of Zhenba Yugu include Yugu and Jianban. There is Yugu in the picture of "Acrobatics Children's Skills" painted by Su Hanchen in the Song Dynasty. Wang Qi's "Sancai Tuhui" in the Ming Dynasty recorded: Yugu, cut bamboo into bamboo, three or four feet long, with leather covering its head, hit with two fingers; there is also a Jianzi, made of bamboo, about two feet long, four or five fen wide, and half thick, and two pieces are used to hit together to make harmony when singing. The popular fishing drum is a bamboo strip with two sections connected. It is made of local spotted bamboos over five years old, about 80-120 cm long, covered with pig heart oil skin at the bottom, and tightened with a cloth-wrapped ring. It can be used after drying. The sound of the bamboo strip is clear and has a "ping-pong" resonance sound; the bamboo strip is also called "piece" or "ruler", which is formed by two bamboo strips with narrow upper and wide middle ends and shuttle-shaped lower ends. The two pieces hit each other and make a "chi chi" sound. Some artists also tie small bells on the front ends of the two bamboo strips, which make a crisp "ding-dang" sound when the boards are struck. The percussion instruments, the fishing drum and the bamboo strip, are played by one storyteller; there are two types of drum sections, "opening drum", four types of "rhyme interlude", and three types of "singing interlude". The length of the drum section varies from two bars to more than ten bars in 2/4 beats. In the old days, the performance form of Zhenba fishing drum was a single person sitting and talking and singing, combining talking and singing, with singing as the main part. Now that the fishing drum has been put on stage, its performance has changed a lot. The number of performers can be more or less, and the performance posture can be sitting, standing, dancing, leading singing, duet, chorus, or even adding accompaniment and other musical instruments. The lyrics of Zhenba fishing drum are mainly seven-character sentences and ten-character sentences. Representative repertoires include "You'an", "Zhan Baomian", "Jinshan Wendao", "Zhu's Liver Cutting", "Guijie Divorce Letter", etc. Its music is mostly pentatonic palace mode and micro-mode. The performance content is mainly based on ethics, morality, warnings and good advice. Its performance style is elegant and euphemistic, simple and elegant, not limited by the performance venue and the number of audiences, and is deeply loved by the audience. Zhenba fishing drum is very artistic and ornamental, with certain aesthetic value. It has high artistic value in music, and also has high artistic research value in anthropology, language, folklore, literature, etc. Its repertoire is not only literary, but also a good teaching material for teaching and creating a harmonious society. Zhenba Yugu is included in the "Chinese Quyi Music Collection" (Shaanxi Volume), and has been included in the first batch of Shaanxi Province's intangible cultural heritage protection list.
