Origin More than 2,000 years ago, Qin Shihuang built the Qing Temple in Louguan to worship Laozi, which was the forerunner of the temple fair. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, some Buddhist temples were built in Zhouzhi, and temple fairs gradually became popular. In the Tang Dynasty, Li Yuan recognized Li Er as his distant ancestor and built large-scale buildings such as the Zongsheng Palace in Louguan. The emperors of the Tang Dynasty visited Louguan 6 times and held grand royal worship ceremonies. In the second year of the Jianzhong period of the Tang Dynasty (781 AD), the deputy general Yi Si paid for the construction of the Daqin Temple and the "Stele of the Spread of the Daqin Nestorian Church in China". The stele was erected on the seventh day of the first lunar month (February 4, Sunday), and believers celebrated for 50 days. This was the first officially recorded Zhouzhi temple fair. In the first year of the Yuanhe period of the Tang Dynasty (806 AD), the county lieutenant Bai Juyi worshipped the Black Dragon Pool. In the twelfth year of the Zhenyuan period (796 AD), the county lieutenant Pei Jun built the Zhongnan and Taibai Mountain Shrines, and Liu Zongyuan wrote "Zhongnan Mountain Shrine Records" and "Taibai Mountain Shrine Records". During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the county government held many sacrifices. For example, on the Spring Beginning Day, the county magistrate had to whip a paper ox and distribute candies to those who participated in the ceremony, commonly known as beating spring. A celebration palace (Wanshou Palace) was built in the county town, and a celebration was held on the emperor's birthday. Zou Ru, the Qing magistrate, sacrificed to Qingshan (Cuifeng Mountain) and erected a monument to commemorate the event. During the Republic of China period, the county government once set up a sacrificial official to be in charge of the sacrificial rituals of the Confucian Temple. The scope of the temple fairs ranged from three to five villages to dozens of villages. The Zhongnan Dou Village Temple Fair, the Jixian Temple Fair, the Linchuan Temple Winter Solstice Fair, and the Lanmeiyuan Village Qingming Fair were all hosted by the village. The Cuifeng Mountain Goddess Temple Fair is hosted by 32 villages in Yabai Town, Cuifeng Township, and Zhuyu Township, forming 12 communities, which take turns to host the fair every year. On the 20th day of the first lunar month, the Fire God Fair (also dedicated to the Goddess of the Goddess) is held in Xiaozhaizi. The communities include Xiaozhai, Xiameng Village, Nanxintou, Beixintou, Xinzhuang, Dazhai, Huangjiabao, Lijia Village, Shiqiao and other villages. On the 18th day of the first lunar month, the West Three Kings Community in the county includes 15 villages including Podian, Liutun, Huaihua, Dongyanghua, Shangtiantun, Xiatiantun, Shangertun, Xiaertun, Toutun, Xiasantun, Shangsitun, Xiasitun, Zhujiacha, Laijia Village, Taohe and so on. There are many tourists. Tourists for Cuifeng Goddess Fair come from five counties and districts: Meixian, Fufeng, Wugong, Yangling and Zhouzhi. Tourists for Louguantai Fair are mainly from Guanzhong area, but there are also a large number of tourists from other provinces and a few overseas tourists. The maximum number of tourists per day is 70,000 to 80,000. On February 15, 1991 (the first day of the first lunar month), Wenxian Bridge at Louguantai overturned due to too many tourists, injuring more than 140 people and killing 24 people, causing heavy casualties. There are often several fairs in one day in the county: for example, on the 20th day of the first lunar month, there is the Fire God Temple Fair in Xiaozhaizi, Erqu Town, and the Niangniang Temple Fair in Dou Village, Zhongnan; on the 23rd day of the first lunar month, there is the Qiqu Baoen Temple Fair in Yabai Town, and the Nuanquan Temple Fair in Guangji Township; on the 15th day of the second lunar month, there is the Laozi Birthday Fair in Xilouguan, and the Laojun Fair in Shijia Temple, Guangji Township. Some temples have several fairs: for example, on the 28th day of the first lunar month, there are the West Dongyue Temple Fair and the East Dongyue Temple Fair; on the 13th day of the seventh lunar month, there are Taixinbao and Baxiantai in Taibai Mountain. On the 6th day of the eighth lunar month, Guangji Township and Nan Daping are all Taibai Temple Fairs. The fairs are mostly concentrated in the spring and autumn seasons, with the longest lasting more than 10 days and the shortest lasting three or two days. The Zhouzhi Temple Fair is a review of folk art. Large-scale folk art activities such as community fire, stilts, dragon lanterns, paper-making, wax sculptures, gongs and drums, ceremonial guards, and folk dances are the climax of the temple fair. For example, on the 15th day of the first lunar month, there is the Lantern Festival in Qinghua Village, and colorful lanterns are hung in front of every house. On the 17th day of the first lunar month, the Lantern Festival of Mapeng in Zhongnan Town is held. Every family makes a pole of colored paper, a colored lantern, and releases river lanterns, just like a long dragon swimming. The Dragon Lantern Festival of February 2nd in Yangtian Village, Yabai Town, is held on the banks of Yangtian River. The wax sculpture art of April 8th in Dou Village, Zhongnan Town is amazing. On the large wax that is more than 1 meter high, 0.7 meters in diameter, and weighs 325 kilograms, there are flowers, fruits, grasses and insects with both spirit and form. It has been exhibited in Xi'an. At the temple fair, paper sculpture is organized by village. Paper sculpture artists in each village use bamboo reeds as the skeleton, and use paper to shape pavilions, mountains, rivers, flowers and plants, decorated with dramas or historical figures and stories, with rich colors and fine carvings. On the day of the meeting, the villagers carry it to the temple fair for competition, and then cremate it in front of the statue of the god. It is commonly known as paper fire. The circus fire and high-lifting cores in Zhendong Village and Yanghua Village are famous far and wide, and the celadon flames in Yangtian Village are particularly wonderful.
