Temple fair, also called temple market, is one of the markets in Ziyang. It is called temple fair because the venue is located in or near a temple. It integrates folk culture and religious culture, and is an important activity for mass cultural entertainment and good wishes. Ziyang has many temples since ancient times, and there are dozens of temples in the old county alone. Before the "Cultural Revolution", temple fairs were popular and there were many names. The temple fairs such as Guanyin, Laojun, Zushi, Yaowang, Guandi, Tudi, Chenghuang, and Caishen were the most eye-catching. Later, due to the destruction of most temples in the "Four Olds", temple fair activities declined sharply. The main temple fairs that have been preserved now are: Leigutai Temple Fair: called Zhenwu Zushihui, hosted by the Leigutai Forest Park Management Office, twice a year on the first to fifteenth day of the first lunar month and the first to fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month. The fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month is the underground palace day, also called the celebration day, and the number of people going to the temple fair is the largest. During the temple fair, in addition to visiting the temple gods, agricultural and sideline products and daily necessities are also traded. Tourists from surrounding counties and Guanzhong area flock to the area, which is the busiest season for Leigutai Scenic Area. Zhenren Palace Temple Fair: Hosted by Ziyang County Taoist Administration Office, it starts on the first day of the seventh lunar month every year and lasts for half a month. The main contents include Taoist cultural seminars, large-scale sacrificial activities and Taoist cultural publicity activities. Temple fairs in other places are spontaneously organized by the people. The more influential ones include Guanyin Village, Qibao Village, Zhongba Island, Dongming Temple, etc. The content is mainly to worship Buddha and burn incense to pray for the protection of gods.
