Lingyuan is the birthplace of Chinese civilization and the hometown of the Goddess of Hongshan. It is named after the source of the Daling River. Lingyuan shadow puppetry is not only a local art that is popular among urban and rural people in the city, but also has spread to Heilongjiang, Jilin, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia through various channels such as shadow puppet troupes and mobile performances of shadow puppet artists over the years, and is deeply loved by people from other places. At present, there are still 23 shadow puppets and more than 150 shadow puppet artists in Lingyuan. They not only perform in the city, but also perform in neighboring Hebei, Inner Mongolia and other places, enriching the cultural life of the masses and promoting artistic exchanges. As early as 1979, the Lingyuan Shadow Puppet Troupe participated in the first shadow puppet show in Chaoyang City, and the modern play "Double Happiness" and the mythological story play "The Legend of the White Snake" both won first prizes. In 1991, he participated in the first Liaoning Shadow Play Performance and won the first prize with the traditional play "Flame Mountain"; in 1994, he participated in the provincial performance and won the second prize with the modern play "Red Sister-in-law"; in 1998, he participated in the third provincial shadow play performance and won the first prize with the traditional short play "Red Lotus Eliminating Tyrant". During the Mid-Autumn Festival in 1998, he performed a special show for seven foreign guests from Egypt, Russia and other countries who came to Chaoyang to participate in the "One Exhibition and One Conference", which was well received by foreign friends. In recent years, in order to promote the excellent national folk culture and to explore, rescue and organize the folk art heritage, Lingyuan City Cultural Center has started to collect and organize the shadow scrolls of northern China since 1988. After more than ten years of hard work, 3,300 traditional and modern shadow scrolls have been collected, reaching 34 million words. A large amount of valuable information has been accumulated for our folk art, and the number and neatness of the works are the best in the country. In 1992, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Culture named Lingyuan the "Hometown of Shadow Play Art". In 1996, the Ministry of Culture named Lingyuan "Hometown of Chinese Folk Shadow Play Art". In 1999, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Culture allocated special funds to support Lingyuan to establish the "Lingyuan Shadow Play Art Garden" which integrates shadow play carving art, performance achievements, shadow play collection, and singing and operation, bringing the construction of Lingyuan Shadow Play Base to a new level. We have reason to believe that Lingyuan Shadow Play Art will go beyond China and become famous all over the world in the dawn of the new century.
