De'ang women's clothing

🎧  Listen to Introduction

Like many southern ethnic minority women, De'ang women like to wear skirts, but the difference is that their skirts are long skirts with colorful water waves, which look novel, generous, bright and eye-catching. According to folk legends, the patterns on the skirts of De'ang women are closely related to the totems of their ancestors worshiping dragons and big birds. There are obvious differences in the patterns of skirts of women from different branches. Women from the self-proclaimed "Liang" branch have wide stripes of red, green, yellow, black and other colors woven horizontally on their skirts; women from the self-proclaimed "Bielie" branch have large red stripes woven horizontally on their skirts; women from the self-proclaimed "Ruma" branch have black lines as the base color of their skirts, mixed with red and white thin stripes. Therefore, according to the color characteristics of the stripes on the skirts of De'ang women, local people call them "Huadeang", "Hongdeang" and "Heideang". There is also a legend here. Legend has it that a long time ago, three sisters of the De'ang ethnic group killed a cow together. The cow was injured and fell to the ground, struggling. The cow's tail was stained with blood and swung around. The three sisters' skirts were all splashed with different degrees of cow blood. So they wove new skirts according to the position and color of the cow blood on the skirts, forming three different colors of skirts, which were passed down to their descendants. De'ang women generally do not keep their hair, but wrap their heads with a bun. Some grow their hair after marriage. Women often wear short jackets with front opening, mainly blue or black, with red cloth edges on both front openings, and square silver plates, silver bubbles and silver swings are nailed on them. They wear long skirts underneath, with bamboo or rattan waist hoops and leggings. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
