The Miao people are distributed in several provinces and regions in southwest my country. According to dialects, they can be roughly divided into the Xiangxi dialect area, the Qiandong dialect area, and the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou dialect area. The Qingshui River Basin in southeast Guizhou is the largest Miao settlement area in the country, roughly including Kaili, Jianhe, Huangping, Taijiang, Leishan, Danzhai, Shibing, Huangping, Zhenyuan, Sansui, as well as Sanjiang in Guangxi and Jingxian in Hunan. In this vast Miao settlement area, a poetic myth with creation as the main content is widely circulated, commonly known as "ancient songs" or "ancient songs and ancient lyrics". The content of Miao ancient songs is all-encompassing, from the birth of the universe, the origin of humans and species, the creation of the world, the monstrous floods in the early days, to the great migration of the Miao people, the ancient social system of the Miao people and daily production and life, etc., all-encompassing, becoming a collection of ancient Miao myths. Miao ancient songs and ancient lyrics are mostly sung in drum society sacrifices, weddings and funerals, gatherings of relatives and friends, and festivals. The singers are mostly middle-aged and elderly people, wizards, singers, etc. Banquets are important occasions for singing ancient songs. The ancient songs, lyrics and myths of the Miao nationality are the spiritual memory of a nation, the encyclopedia and "classics" of the ancient Miao society, and have historical, ethnological, philosophical, anthropological and other values. Today, these ancient songs, lyrics and myths are still sung and chanted among the people. However, due to the impact of modern culture and market economy, the ancient songs of the Miao nationality are on the verge of being lost. Take Taijiang as an example. Among the 130,000 Miao compatriots in the county, only a few can sing the complete ancient songs. Currently, only more than 200 people can sing some incomplete ancient songs, and they are all middle-aged and elderly people. The elderly who have inherited more ancient songs are already old.
