"The Origin of Miao Flower Clothes" describes the different production and formation of Miao women's clothing. "When the Miao people traveled westwards over mountains and rivers, they all wore the same clothes, the same pattern and the same look. When they arrived at a place called Tiaoxi, due to the large population and small land, it was inconvenient for them to live in one place, so they planted a big stone there and agreed that each of them would lead a group of children to find a living, and then gather here thirteen years later to recognize their master." Thirteen years later, everyone lived in one place, and there were too many children and grandchildren to recognize each other. Two grandmothers quarreled over a girl, and someone died. They "sat down to discuss and planted a stone, and agreed that each branch would make a different kind of clothing, each decorated with a different pattern, and each dressed in a different way, so that they would not mistake the children for each other and cause quarrels when they gathered in the future." After the agreement was reached, the milkmaid who was going to the mountains to find a living made a short skirt to wear in order to facilitate climbing the slopes; the milkmaid who was going to the plain made a long skirt; the milkmaid who was going to a place that was neither tall nor short made a skirt that was neither long nor short, just reaching the knees; the milkmaid who was going to the forest, for fear of being caught by wild thorns, only tied two scarves, and each of them had a different pattern. "The style of Miao women's clothing is mainly reflected in the collar of the top. Some clothing styles are tied with a hole in a piece of cloth as the neckline, which is put on from the head when worn, and the front is a whole piece; some other clothing styles have a double-breasted top, which is divided into left and right parts, with the collar line in the middle of the top, and the left and right lapels are symmetrical; in some other clothing styles, although the front of the top is also divided into left and right parts, the left front is larger than the right front, and the collar line goes up from the collar to the right shoulder socket and down to the armpit, and then goes straight down from the armpit. The bottoms are mainly pleated skirts, barrel skirts, spiral skirts, etc., which are very few in number, and some bottoms are trousers. Miao clothing has unique and flexible design, exquisite craftsmanship, various patterns, rich colors, and reasonable matching. It is the carrier of Miao culture. Its skilled and exquisite embroidery, cross-stitching and other craftsmanship contain profound national cultural connotations and show a strong folk The color of ethnic feelings and prominent ethnic characteristics. At the same time, women's clothing is a symbol of the Miao marriage group. Its important identification function is to indicate the marriage group to which one belongs. "No marriage if the clothing is different" has become an unwritten rule in the Miao marriage life. Therefore, studying each different clothing style can give a good understanding of the way in which the marriages of different branches of the Miao are concluded. The development of society and the renewal of people's thinking concepts have led to changes in living habits. Young women tend to buy modern clothing that is simple to wear, making clothing making only a hobby for older women. At the same time, with the reform and opening up in the 1980s, there has been a wave of migrant workers. Most of the young people in the villages have gone to the coastal areas to work, and most of them no longer learn the clothing making skills of their own ethnic group.
